Does anyone else get depressed because a good television series has ended, or because a television series started out good but then ended badly? I've experienced both.

Since 2020, I've dealt with shows with really bad endings, or unexpected endings. It's like the anti-heroes are winning.

I was really let down with "Homeland" back in 2020 - both because the series ended and because the ending was a bad-enough ending.

Then, in 2021, I was really disheartened and let down with "Good Witch" ending their series prematurely, and because the ending had one bad part in the ending coupled with the horrible way the final season was filmed. It's like the writers changed.

And today, I finished binge-watching "Designated Survivor" on Netflix. It started out great, but it progressively got worse. It's as if the writers of this show changed, and the drama turned into makeshift comedy sections here and there. The ending, however, was super depressing and shocking. I liked the creativeness of including real footage from people lamenting about injustices, but I disliked Season 3 completely! The ending just depressed me even more today.

I suppose that I'm reacting to escapism gone wrong. I wanted to escape into a safer reality, or a reality that keeps me pseudo flourishing - with hopeful wins with justice being done. Well, lately, I've been watching nothing but losses in the end. It's horrible! This isn't what I wanted to escape to. I'm really upset - over television shows. I know it sounds silly, but I really am.

I was in shock and a mess when Supernatural ended. This show was a part of my life, a major part of my life that changed my life in a lot of ways. And it ended last year. In some of the episodes at the end, I'd be doing everyday things and break down into tears because it made my heart hurt so much. In some ways I loved the series finale, but in other ways I just...it was kinda a let down. I think Dean and Castiel deserved better. But then again, SPN was never a happy story about happy endings.

What I'm saying is...I totally get you.

Game of Thrones’s last season was horrible and so dark I thought I was going blind! And let’s not forget lost which I committed about for years to and could’ve ended up with a masters degree instead of massive disappointment.

Thank you for understanding and relating to me, @cinnamonsun and @sarahsweets

I never watched SPN or GoT (tried to watch GoT's 1st episode and got way too triggered to go further), but I think I heard the disappoint when I used to be on social media. I've deleted all of my social media accounts, so I'm not in the loop. I'm sorry your shows affected you, too!

Who would have thought that shows would have such profound effects on us? I don't know whether to laugh or cry at this point.

I don’t know if you have HBO or can access it, but one of their series from years ago called 6 feet under was phenomenal. The best finale I’ve ever seen in my entire life. Very emotional. It’s been a while I don’t know if you would consider it triggering so read the description or review.

Thank you for that! I can resubscribe to HBO when I'm ready. I'm always looking for shows (new or past) that will help me bide the time while I'm isolating. I look forward to checking that show out in the near future.

"The Sopranos" did this to me. I was mad, sad because it was over and just....ugh. FYI I agree that "Six Feet Under" was a great series!

SPN was something I could relate to. The two brothers had horrible lives. But still tried to help people and do good in the world. Sam was in school to be a lawyer and left to help his brother find their father and never got to finish school. His entire life was derailed and interrupted by forces beyond his control and he experienced a traumatic loss to a Supernatural creature. To me, it's just about making the best out of your lot in life, loving yourself even though you know you make mistakes and aren't perfect. It's about accepting the pain and suffering in life, but finding purpose and holding to it as much as possible. They aren't someone anyone would look at and value or idolize. But they are two amazing people trying to save the world. To me, it's a beautiful, tragic story.

I made a lot of friends through this fandom. It helped me cope with the tumultuous roller coaster events of my life over the past three years. Misha Collins inspired hope in me. They had a campaign for mental health to Always Keep Fighting. Because one of the stars of the show struggles with depression. I found and lost love. I went to a convention. I had this whole incredible experience with this show and it's hard that it's over and now part of the past. But all good things come to an end. I know this show and its philosophy and message continue to impact me and always will. But I can't handle watching a lot of the last season. I want to just remember the earlier seasons and let it live on in my heart and memory like that.

It's really amazing a show or the actors could have such an influence on your life. The character Castiel is the first character on television I was ever able to relate to through my experiences of social awkwardness and social anxiety, and feeling very out of place in the world. He is also LGBTQ. Which is underrepresented in TV. I was like, ah, finally, there's someone like me on TV.

I’d not say I am depressed about tv shows ending, wouldn’t take it that far but I really miss some shows. My husband, my brother and I still agonize over The Americans. It was probably the best show ever. Brilliant. We can’t get over it

I also really miss French crime drama Spiral. I waited and waited for new season but it never came up and now I don’t even know what streaming to watch it on if it comes back
