No idea if right forum but when I feel down if I don't hurt myself, I'll trash my house or hurt friends! When will I grow up and how?

Hi, Julia! I see you've already been to the SI forum, but, if I understand correctly, that forum is full of dangerous triggers for you. I have confidence in the moderators here; just start talking and they'll move the thread if it becomes necessary. Your friends here will follow.

As a person of intropunitive tendencies, I have some discomfort in approaching this topic. Sure, all these are dysfunctional ways of dealing with powerful pent-up emotions. First of all, Thank You for respondin!. I'm using distraction tactics tonight. Something I have always taught kids I work with! But as regards something that can be broken again and again...I'm it, friend!

But ((((Rohag)))) I am trying to be non-self harming, hence breaking my house instead of me. Great idea about a game though! I LOVE that idea!

I understand my underlying issues, i just have to swallow the advice I give kids and do as I say to them!

Again, thank you for responding and understanding. And yes, maybe I should exercise self-care and stay out of trigger forums?

((((Lost71)))) I don't really get angry any more but in the past I have. This is what I did. I had a splitting maul and a log in the back yard. When I got angry I took my anger out on the log. Now mind you I was cutting firewood for a living so these things were already at hand. But you could get a nurf bat or something to take your anger out on a pole or something. I don't know but better than trashing the house. Hugs for your day.

Self - Destuction? When I get MAD, I visualize socking, stomping, obliterating someone evil!!!!! At the same time, I am on my bike or on a step master. I ususally feel better afterwards.

I had a punching bag growing up. Good heavy one. They're perfect for when you feel like hurting someone or yourself. Can mildly hurt your hands with no lasting effects and feel like you're beating up your problem at the same time. Also, can be aerobic exercise. Nice combo! It may have helped me deal with raging hormones at the time, too.

Sorry I'm so late finding this thread (((((Julia))))). I'm not sure I have any suggestions for you, but when I'm angry, I clean - clean out closets, drawers, and clean everything. Gets rid of the pent up anger, and I end up with a clean house for a plus! Hope you feel better soon.

Berries, I am feeling a little better today. Just been so up and down lately but I'll get there.

So far, until I can buy a punchbag (not joking lol) I just go into the garden and kick something about.

I did used to paint and stuff. Haven't in a long time. I did get a guitar a few days ago, in the process of fixing it up with new strings etc just now. I know that will help coz I'll need to work hard to re-learn it again.
