Today is rainy and dreary, so I tried my SAD lamp for the first time. I'm not sure if it's psychosomatic, but I do feel better. The lamp I bought is called a "Travelite" by Northern Light Technologies. As some of you know I travel a little bit for work and I wanted something that I could take with me on trips. My lamp cost $225. Yes that is a lot of money, but if it saves me from dipping so low that I need to miss work it's well worth it.

Here's the link to Northern Light Technologies website: http://www.northernlighttechnologies.com/

Just wanted to share my experience.

Thank you for sharing and I hope you get good results with it. It's unfortunate they're so expensive.

Yes it is unfortunate. It wasn't covered by my main health plan, but we get a $750 "Health Spending Account" each year and it was covered under that. I had already used most of that account, but I received $119 back.

I started last Saturday with the Lite Book- $199 for 30 minutes. Crossing fingers that it helps if the depression has any seasonal aspect.
My first day was a rainy gloomy morning and I felt more tired while I was using it. To bad it does not work if your eyes are closed.

My Pdoc said if I do not feel any benefit after 3 weeks get my money back.

What time do you set yours for?

Mine recommends 1 hour/day at a distance of 16 inches or 30 minutes at 12 inches.I am starting slow and have done it in shorter amount of time. It gives me a headache if I do it too long which it said can be common in the beginning for people that are fair skinned with light eyes.

I totally agree!

I doubt it will replace my anti-d's, but I was starting to get too high from my wellbutrinXL (I have bipolar). I reduced from 300mg to 150mg. 150mg was still making me too high, so my p-doc took me off the wellbutrinXL (150 mg is the lowest dose) and now I'm on 100mg of the generic stuff.

I always wondered about light therapy. Thanks for the link to Northern Lights that shows pictures and describes what the units look like and what they do. I'm glad that you are telling us how it makes you feel after using light therapy...sounds so simple, yet seems to be a powerful source of help.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I am feeling a bit down today, but I had taken a couple of my friends out for their birthday last night. No alcohol for me, but my mood doesn't do well if I eat too much sweats, salt etc. Between dinner, dessert and the movie I am feeling like I drank all night last night. I'm sure I'll be fine by tomorrow.

On a side note don't go see "The American" worst movie ever! Geroge Clooney did a better acting job on the Facts of Life LOL! If some of you don't remember George being on the Facts of Life here is a link to a clip with him on it. VERY HUNKY! http://www.bestweekever.tv/2008-02-2...ube-find-ever/

I will definitely keep everyone posted on how I feel about the SAD lamp after I've used it for a few weeks.
