Does anyone experience being so physically tired when depressed that you just can't go on anymore? I just do not see the purpose to life. I am just so tired. When my family asks "what's wrong?" The only thing I can say is that I am so, so tired.

Yes, definitely. I often "bump into myself" or "run into an invisible wall"; I suddenly run out of emotional, intellectual and physical energy and am unable to continue what I may be attempting to do. Over time I've learned a measure of energy will return, but I have little or no control over the timing.

I'm living with this as best I can, but it has changed my life.

I am so tired just now. I started a new exercise thing yesterday thinking that it may help my mood and energy - however I was left feeling totally wiped out. Fell asleep at 5pm yesterday and slept to 6am this morning - and all day I have felt exhausted.

It is tough. I was in pretty good shape when depression recently came back strong. After that I didn't feel in shape anymore. I do still believe that exercise is a good tool against depression and anxiety.
CatsRule, if you haven't had a physical exam recently, having one is something to think about. Just to rule out any organic causes like vitamin deficiency or anemia etc.

Thanks. Yes, physically, I am now very overweight due to meds and my own lack of discipline and the fact that I stress eat. It's just that I'm trying to hold down a job and am full-time caretaker for mother (elderly) and sister (bipolar) and then add that I'm 47 and not married, no children (which I guess is best after all this) and I'm just plain ole tired of life. It seems that I've run my course and I feel 100.

With a full time job in addition to being caretaker for two people you have good reason to be tired. I was caretaker to one person and that alone drained me. Can you get some help? I'm sure you need a break.

some ppl feel the way you do when depressed. it's like the body shuts down so ppl sleep and avoid the depression for awhile. it's a good rule of thumb to not surrender to the tiredness. that only magnifies the prob. instead take a walk. the exercise will lift the depression somewhat and invigorate your energy level.
BTW, do you see a pdoc for the depression? you might benefit from an anti-depressant. IDK, but it sure helped my depression.

I have a few easy things I like to do if I'm that discouraged and tired. I'll do reading in a "general" book (broad history book with pictures, for example) or go for a walk for a specific purpose (my neighborhood has a zillion rabbits and I often count rabbits going out/into my neighborhood; on foot there are often some I can't see from a car).

I think of some aspect of my problem and see if I can figure out one thing to make it easier for me and just otherwise let my mind roam where it will, often it will see something pleasant or think a thought that will make me feel better.

Letting my mind expand in some way often makes me feel less tired and hemmed in. Sometimes writing in a journal or working on my own quiet projects (sewing, organizing, etc.) can help too.

I have that same feeling everyday. Even when I'm not working I feel completely exhausted. Since I haven't found an answer myself, I just force myself to get up and do something I enjoy. Do it in small segments and build as your mind and body heals. Hope this helps.
