Does therapy really help? Ive been a long time depression sufferer and medication isn't helping me that much at this point. I've seen a therapist before but didn't feel any benefits but I'm really desperate to change. I don't want to live this way anymore....feeling so sad, hopeless, and alone! I've probably lost my boyfriend because I'm just never happy and I don't have anyone else. Is it possible to really change?

In my experience, the best thing to beat depression is to actually make changes in your life. Figure out what in your life is making you unhappy and change it. I know that is much easier said than done, but it's the only thing that really helped me beat my depression.

Hi,
Really sorry for you.
It will be easier for you to find a solution if you can find out - What makes a person suffering from depression push their loved ones away?

You know I hadn't thought about that but maybe that is what I've done! I love my boyfriend very much but I always have the urge to leave. It doesn't make any sense. Especially since I'm so devistated that he might be done with me I guess therapy couldn't hurt. It might be good for me to get some feelings out. I'm bad about keeping everything in.

You're welcome! Depression is a horrible thing to have. Hopefully we'll figure ourselves out one day.

I hope I figure it out before my hubby gets tired of me being so glum all the time, and before they realize I'm not very productive at work these days & send me packing. I did get stuff done at work today, and this evening is going pretty good so far. I suppose my fears are out of proportion.

Hang on to your boyfriend, he's probably more concerned and hopes you feel better than he'd be disappointed in you.

I think we jump to the worst conclusion.

Hi ((((Midnight)))) I found (for me) that it makes a huge difference while taking Rx to also go to my T and talk things out.

The truly tricky part is finding the right T. I got really lucky this time because my current T was really paying attention and added up all of the symptoms and came up with a Dx that "fit".

I felt sooo relieved. It just "clicked". Now am on my way to feeling a little better (inch by inch. It's not easy).

I can say, though, since a proper Dx, I have felt a huge weight lift and I don't feel as depressed (sad, hopeless, alone, etc). I still have my moments, but I realize the Anx/Dep was a symptom of a much greater thing.

Also, regarding your BF. I am sure he cares very much about how you are doing and is concerned. He is probably wishing only the very best for you and it hurts him to see you hurting.

I hope you will continue to post and share.

And changing your life suddenly is unrealistic, especially if your depressed- bipolararmedstudent

Perhaps you just didn't connect with the right T.

Perhaps it time for a switch, especially if you feel as if you aren't getting anywhere.

I have had at least 15 different Ts off and on for what seems like forever, and it wasn't until this one that I feel as if I am really getting somewhere and understanding what the **** is going on.

Well its not easy to change therapists. It took me such a long time to finally go to one, you cant just switch so easily. Its hard to do emotionaly. And anyways i sort of do like my therapist though im not getting anywhere wîth him. In wat time span did you go to 15 therapists, i think most ppl arnt emotionaly capable of doing that

I've been through periods where I went to therapy and I didn't think it was helping. I ultimately quit because I was "tired of talking about myself" but now I'm thinking I need to try again. I need someone to talk to about how I feel because I get seriously depressed.

I just want to relate that I think it's worth trying again and again because you get that outside perspective that helps you change the way you're thinking, and it's like a rut that you get in when you're depressed. Trying therapy beats trying nothing.

Oh, yes it is possible to change. It is possible to improve! Once I really started working on improving my mood, it did help. I hope you start feeling better soon.

midnight.fairy, that's awesome that you want to do what you can to feel better. It's really hard to trust someone enough to tell them everything, but I guess that's what it takes. It does feel good to share that stuff, even if you dont' always get the feedback you hope to get.
