The neighbors across my back yard cut down a tree I loved in their back yard. It depressed me to have it gone and everything is all cement in my yard and there's no nature for me to enjoy except some ivy.
So, I decided to get a bunch of planters and make a garden to enjoy. I had no gardening experience but decided to try it anyway-if it failed I would get fake plants to put out there. I put a bunch of plants and flowers back there and it looks so colorful and bright and it's really pretty to look out the window and see.
I only get one hour of direct sun in my back yard a day. I go out to sit back there to soak it in and I enjoy being surrounded by all my plants and little ceramic garden animals I decorated the plants with.
I put up bird feeders and my yard is now active with all these little birds (I don't know what kind they are) I put up those fake garland of flowers on poles, drain spout and on the bars on my windows. I covered my gate door with a flowery shower curtain to hide the trash in the alley and for privacy.
I even put in a little pool that me and dogs slosh around the water in.
Sometimes when I close my eyes while sitting back there I can actually believe for a few seconds that I'm in a nice wooded area with lots of birds and a pond.
So, WHY do some cats have to come along and knock down and break my ceramic animals and %#@&#! and poop in my planters? My garden
I know it's really stupid to get upset over but I can't help it. I'm really bummed out about this.
I called the SPCA and PETA but they both said that they don't collect stray cats unless the cats are already in containers. Duh! How the heck am I supposed to put them in containers when I don't have any containers and I wouldn't know how to get them in there if I did? They hide in crevices of houses that I can't reach and I don't know if they got rabies. There are 6 cats back there that I know of and they're all skinny, scrawny and sickly looking. I'm not touching them.
I always donate money to these dog/cat charities and they can't help me out with this?
I put a bunch of those shiny stones in the planters and I hope that works in keeping the cats from going to the bathroom in them. I can't do anything about them breaking my ceramic animals. I'll just have to go out and buy some plastic ones.

I think you need a way of detering the cats.

Any cat-poop experts here?

I'm sure that there must be some stuff you can buy to spray around the plants, to stop the cats doing that!

Sorry I'm not much help.

Your garden sounds lovely.

Hi Pegasus,
No, I don't need a cat poop expert-I need some fire crackers to scare the cats away from my yard.
I think the rocks and keeping the dirt moist should do the trick. I've been researching online. If worst comes to worst then I'll try Red Cyanne pepper.

Hey! Jax2923,

I heard from someone that if you put LION poop round the flowers, cats can't stand the smell!

Any idea where you could get lion poop from? My garden

Or maybe a tape-recording of a dog barking non-stop would scare em off?

Hi sweetie,

I'm sorry you have problems with your garden. If you go in a Garden Center there is a spray you can buy for this kind of problems. It doesn't hurts your plants or the animals but the smell of this spray keeps the animals away.

Your garden sounds beautiful. I hope you found some of the spray that Time0 talked about. Gardens can be such a relaxing, soothing place to be. Enjoy.

Hi Time0 and Bipolar Bear,
I put a bunch of stones in the planters and so far so good. No more ickies or knocked over ceramic animals.

I went to visit my brother, who lives in the country, and my sister in law picked me all of these really cool wild plants and then she potted them for me. We also stopped off at a plant shop where she treated me to a potted plant. So, I had all of these plants to bring home with me and I also got more decorative lawn stuff at the dollar store to put out. I'm really getting into this gardening thing.
Now, I just have to get a lawn chair. I've been sunning on a folding chair but it's not cutting it. I think I'll go to the store and buy myself a nice lounge chair today and maybe even some fake grass - Oh, this is fun!!! I'm thinking also, I can get one of those little fountains that run on batteries. I saw one at Rite-Aid for $20. Hmmm. Yeah-I think I'll get one of them. It'll be sooooo cool!

I'll look for that spray too, Time0-thanks for telling me about it.
I am definetly enjoying Bipolar. My garden

Your garden sounds great. Im sorry about the unwanted visitors and the things they leave. Get a spray and they will soon stop coming.

Good luck

Thanks ATG.
Where one problem is resolved, another fills it's place- The neighbors across the alley keep blaring Gangsta rap in their back yard (not my genre of music) and I found 2 huge cockroaches bellied up in my swimming pool.
Why do I even try?

You have to try planting mint in a large planter , this smells soooooo good when you break it off, then put mint in Ice Tea and relax in your garden
Enjoy

lol Atg, not a real pool-it's a kiddie pool. My backyard is like 12'x 13'-that's a very rough estimate but close enough. My dogs use it to wade in.
Mmmm, mint-that's a great idea nothemama-thanks. I'll have to buy some.
I went out to enjoy my hour's worth of sunbathing and
I blasted my little boom box so I couldn't hear the neighbor's gangsta rap. They took it to be a battle of the boom boxes and they turned their music up louder and their bass blew my boombox away. I have a tiny $25. Magnavox. But I persevered and kept a steady dose of heavy metal music playing. After about an hour and a half I could no longer hear their bass so I turned mine down. Their music was then barely audible to me. I was relieved and turned my boombox off 'cause I can't stand heavy metal but I had figured they probably couldn't either.
I hope this doesn't become a daily summer ritual.
