I personally have never been in a mental hospital but I wanted to tell you that I think it takes a lot of courage to admit you may need some extra help. A friend of mine was hospitalized a few times and both times she spent about a week there and came out feeling much better. It likely depends on the facility that you enter but I believe that it involves a lot of group therapy. As for keeping the same therapist, I think that would depend on the situation for instance if your therapist is involved with a hospital and you go to that hospital it may be possible to continue to see them. There are other options other than hospitialization also but a therapist would be the best person to explain that because they would be more aware of what is available in your area.

I was in impatient for a few weeks 8 years ago. It was terrifying at first but also helped me get my life together.
I think you should talk to your parents. Just be open and honest. Sit them down and explain your symptoms. Get them to help you find a therapist. You don't always have to go to a Hospital to get help. If therapy isn't working then you can get put on a wait list for impatient. I have been struggling with mental illness since very young and my biggest regret is not going to my parents sooner. |

I am 16 years old and I have been to 4 psych wards in one year. Since you are over 14 you can sign yourself in (so you don't relly even have to tell your parents.) but it would be good if you did. I was scared the first time I ever went. I missed my family and friends. But I really liked the people there.
The second time I went I just wanted to get away from everyone so I self-harmed myself really bad and they admitted me (but don't do that). -the 3rd time I went was when I overdosed. I was rushed to the ER and they told me that If I didn't volentaraly (sp?) go then they would 302 me (302 is when your forced and it goes on your record and you can't get your licenses at 16). So I told them that I would just go. - the fourth time I had been doing really good and then I relapsed. And ended up signing in again. The amount of time you spend in there is sorta up to you. Depending on how your doin you can sign yourself out within 72 hours. But if you feel like you are not ready to go home then you tell your doctor (at the hospital) that you don't wan to And why. -You can keep your same therapist. I've had my therapist for almost 3 years. Hope that helped. Good luck (: ((((BIG HUGS)))) |

I'm 19 and i was discharged from a mental hospital just 2 days ago. I was involuntary put in there. I was extremely scare the first day. I even black out in that morning due to me not eating anything the day before because i was so scare. At the hospital i was at, they woke u up every morning at 6 am for vitals (checking ur pulse) then u could go back to sleep. 8 am is breakfast then 9:45 would be a community meeting (they tell you what the schedule is for the day and each day was different) I was not allow to have my phone or laptop among many others things. people would check on me every 15 minutes. And I was not allow to close the bedroom doors. I know it sounds pretty bad but all the nice people make up for it.

I've been on the psych unit 6 times since February of this year. Depending on your situation you are either involuntarily commited, or your volutarily commited. (Either the cops do it or you do it) Ive been both. Seeing a thearpist is ideal (but I'm the pot calling the kettle black, I dont see one). It's really not a scary place, there are people there that are dealing with the same issues. Most of the issues that you see are suicidality thinking, and self harm. As long as you're not into making trouble, you don't have to worry about being restrained or put in seclusion. I would seriously suggest talking with your parents, and pour your heart out on them. That way everyone would be on the same page. If you really think hospitalization is needed then ok, but sometimes unloading that mess really helps. Hope you feel better soon. ((((HUGS))))
