I'm not sure which forum would have been the best to put this in, but here goes:

Right now I am waiting to be seen by the pharmachology department at the school in which I am getting my therapy from. I currently am only taking 150mg of Zoloft and 1/2 a Xanax whenever I have trouble sleeping. Before this bout of depression (hell, actually up until 2 weeks ago) I was eating pretty normally. But since the depression has set in deeper, I am unable to eat very much (not sure if it's because of the depression or the medication). I really do not want my weight to suffer and have been drinking Ensure to help maintain some of the weight.

It sucks because I really enjoy to exercise too (makes me feel better and sleep better) but am afraid to do that for fear of more weight loss.

Any suggestions on foods that would be easy to keep down in the stomach but that are still healthy and could keep some of my weight on? I have a pretty high metabolism as it is, so I seriously don't need to lose anymore weight.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi lynnjd

When I can't seem to keep any food down, I've usually forced either oranges, pasta or crackers into me. They are relatively easy to keep down, not overly nutritious (okay, the oranges are) but still easy to keep down.

Its more a matter of trial and error in my opinion. If you can eat it without feeling ill, then its a good food for you.

Fresh Fruits & Vegetables, Protein Powder Drinks mixed with Pudding Mix for different flavors, and good old Soup....
Campbell's even have the kind of soup that you can heat and drink right from the container (done in the microwave) - that is what my sister ate (drank) for about a month after her husband passed away, it kept her energy up and her health.

Hello lynnjd,

I have problems with not feeling hungry due to stress.

Relaxation and slowing the breathing down help, so that I am able to eat something.

I try to eat a banana, and cereal every day. Cereal has all the vitamins in it and bananas are good for you.

Sometimes sucking sweets can help to make me feel like eating again.

But I know it is a difficult one to deal with.

Take care.

When I get so depressed that I'm not eating I do the Ensure thing. I also eat WildBerry LifeSavers, something about the sweet/sour of them triggers my appetite and I can eat a little bit. Not overly nutritious, but I eat croissants with fruit flavored whipped cream cheese. I also try to eat at least one container of yogurt a day, usually with a bit of granola.
Are you taking a vitamin/mineral supplement as well?
Good Luck! I think you have try different things and see what works for you. I started with vitamin enriched mineral water and protein bars, and went from there until I figured out the foods/drinks I could keep down easily.

My eating issues are nos comparatively... I can't really tell if I'm hungry or not... my stomach nerves are squirrelly...and stomach always fells ehh. I watch the clock, if I remember to... and once in a while remember I haven't eaten... anything! I try to at least have something to drink then... I would eat if I had food in the house (another personal disorder problem)..

it's a matter of eating to live, not living to eat. How do you eat when you aren't hungry? good wishes.

Well, luckily I am starting to get my hunger back. I actually ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner yesterday (which is way more than I can say I've eaten for about two weeks).

And yes, I've been drinking an Ensure every morning as well to try and keep the proper nutrients in me. Thanks everyone for your input; this group really is great!!!!
