I had to work today and at my job hardly anyone there. That wasn't too bad because the pace was very easy.

However, when I left work, I stopped at the store to pick up a couple of things. I went to a movie kiosk to pick up a movie there also because I don't want to go out tonight. I felt very depressed and alone. When I got to the store, it seemed like all I saw were couples and those with kids.
Even when I was getting the movie at the kiosk, there was a couple getting a movie at the next kiosk to me.

I got home and it seems like everyone's out. I took a bike ride. I had a little bit of time to do it because I got out of work very early. That was OK but I felt bad after it's over.

I usually hate New Year's Eve because when I stay home, I feel like I'm missing something. If I went out then I would be disappointed. Also I'd be terrified because of the drunks on the roads and accidents that I would see. When it's gets to be Midnight, then the neighborhood errupts with firecrackers and screaming. I really hate it! And then I would feel like I have some events coming up later on that I'm dreading.

I understand that I have spent many years of New Year's eve at home. More than once I spent it totally alone with just a radio.

I treat it as just another day. I usually fall asleep before 11pm so no biggie. I do like to see the ball drop at Tmes Square on TV but I can always catch it on the news tomorrow. Have a good nite.

My new years eve was the start of my depression...A year ago my (she was 15 years old at the time) girlfriend left me to go out and get drunk at a party...That mentally scared me...This day has been miserable for me as well...I feel your pain

First of all, let me really congratulate you for doing all the things you did, even knowing you were going to be alone and seeing all the couples and families wherever you went. It would have been easy for you to just go home and hide. Great idea to take a bike ride

I understand your ambivalent attitude towards doing stuff.... if you stay home, you miss out... if you go out, then you face danger. Probably best to stay home and feel safe than to go out on your own and feel scared.

Perhaps next year if you remember, you might sound out some workmates family or friends and arrange a little party at home or at someone else's place. That way you get to share NYE with someone else yet not have to go out among drunks and potential accidents.

Remember that half those people you see in groups might just be longing for a quiet night home by themselves and jealous of you

Ah, same here. This was the first year I spent the New Year Eve ball dropping at my apt. I had a lousy couple of days so I decided to stay holed up and even skipped a New Years Eve party I was invited too.

In the end, I just felt like everyone was going to be happy there but me.

But anyways, just know it's just another ordinary day
