Seriously.. this is why I only tell very few people about my depression because I know not everyone will understand how I'm feeling, only to those who have experience depression. So I almost did another attempt and only told a few people about it.. Somehow a family member knew about it and I didn't want everyone to know tat I almost did. Now I feel total guilt. Whenever I talk to family about my depression( my mom and sister) they see to get mad or question me like "Why are you depressed? You had a good week this week. Why are you doing this?" I couldn't really give an answer.. I can't take it anymore. I really need a hug or someone to talk o because I feel like I have nobody. At least my cat understands an sometimes it feels like that she's the only one I got.

I really do need a hug or talk to somebody.

You're not doing "this." Depression is doing "this" to you, and depression doesn't care you had a good week.

Well, you know that, but unless they experience it themselves I doubt your mom and sister will understand.

Safe cyber-hugs to you, Konstargirl (and to your faithful cat).

I'm sorry you feel this way. Sometime I wish people were more aware about depression. I think too many people correlate depression with feeling sad and it is not quite true. I mean one of the symptoms of depression is immense sadness, but on the other hand, when people are sad it doesn't mean they have depression. I think a lot of people don't get that. When you have depression, you don't need a reason to feel sad. The illness itself is its own source of heartache and inner turmoil.

For me when I start getting depressed, I just feel immense sadness. After that comes hopelessness and my self esteem starts to tank. Doing things I enjoy doesn't, feel good. I do the things I know I used to like and I feel nothing from it. It makes it that much worse. I would try to explain to your family what is it like for you.

When they say things like "Just get over it" and "Everyone has it tough". Tell them those comments are not helpful. Yes some people go through trials and tribulations, but people that suffer from depression need a support system. Especially when things get really bad. When people feel bad for a long time and begin to lose hope, their decision making diminishes. We need people to support us and remind us people care.

Have you talked to your doctor or went into therapy to try and cope with this?

If you want someone to talk to, feel free to P.M. I'm not a doctor, but I have been struggling with depression for a while. I hope you feel better soon.

Yeah, what Adam said. If you need someone to talk to or vent to, pm me. Sorry to hear you're having a hard time. Depression can be so misunderstood. I had the hardest time growing up, and I still do sometimes. It's as if people think that it's just a matter of pulling up the bootstraps and getting on with it, when the reality of depression is it sucks away all my energy.

My family did a pretty bad job when I reached out for support. Essentially they didn't give me any support, made me feel worse for feeling sad all the time, and discouraged me from getting help. Some people don't know how to deal with it, but there are people out there that do. Professionals deal with this everyday. There are also your doctor that can give you medications that may help. Group therapy is more affordable than individual and gives you an opportunity to connect with people that are struggling too. When things were really bad for me, I found weekly one on one therapy the best. My therapist was understanding and helped me sort through a lot of feelings and find some better ways to cope at the time. I hope you can find help and support and keep posting.

Rohag is spot on, depression is INDIFFERENT to a good week or year, or your ongoing suffering. Average person does not GET IT unless they've been there, and even then sometimes they seem clueless. Anyone who gives a rip should educate themselves pick up a good book, google MAJOR DEPRESSION and see how it fits into their world. Anyway keep on coming here and, well, just don't harm yourself.

Hi,

That totally sucks. I've provided my family members and friends a variety of documents that offer tips and advice on family members of people who suffer from depression. They found them very useful and it opened up a dialogue with them. It's not a solution, but it help ease some of the strain. I found all of the documents through Google.

Good luck with your appointment tomorrow, be as candid/honest as you can be with your physician.

RJ

I'm sorry you feel you feel so alone...my mother is kind of the same way, even though she suffers from depression too. It's like she doesn't even understand....but if you ever need anyone to talk to, I'll be here, as well. You can p.m. anytime and I'll try to respond a.s.a.p.

Many hugs to you konstargirl, and try to hang in there.

Unfortunately, I just made another attempt today. I've drunk orange juice with Anitifreeze( I poured in like maybe 2-4 oz of it). I only had like maybe 2 tablespoons of it even though it was a full cup and I took medicine with my pill. I pour the rest one because I was so scared especially I tasted the poison. Now I feel like I need to go to the hospital.

Then GO, RIGHT NOW, get away from the computer or whatever and get looked at. Sounds like it was probably enough to give you a belly ache but I don't know what meds you took. Are you trying to find out if people care? We're sick too and sometimes just hanging on. GET HELP

Please, go and get help. This is the tipping point and you need to take care of yourself. It's your depression that wants you to do it, it's not you, so protect yourself!
