Hey guys.
I just want to keep it short. i've been in a major depressive episode for 7-8 months now, and the key to start getting better, is a GOOD PSYCHOTHERAPIST. (i just changed my old therapist to a new one, and the signs of improvement are fast!!! really fast!) so if you attend therapy, and you feel like, you're not moving on, you're stuck, you should perhaps think about switching to another person. The major sign that a therapy is working - and this is really important - that it HURTS F____ IN BAD!!!!! ![]() so if you feel like you're calm, and alright and perhaps "happy", or in an unusually lifted mood - those are, or were for me - signs, that I could hide my feelings even more, and confuse myself with a false well-being. Everybody has to understand that the purpose of the therapy is not to chit-chat, or to laugh, or whatever, or just to have a good time, and leave relieved, the purpose of the therapy is to be "CRUELLY" honest with yourself. and if you're dealing with depression, i can assure you, there really are deep stuff goin on in you. And if you're going in the right direction, and digging in the right place, you will know, it HURTS SO BAD. but it hurts the most only at the first time. and you will know. you will just know, you're getting out of this. This is how I feel, and I admit this might not apply to everyone, but if you guys feel like you're stuck, you might want to think about this, what happened to me. And i'm on SSRI too, 10mg paroxetine, i started 3 and a half weeks ago. You can't, and must not rely completely only on the meds. The meds itself might help a bit, but without exploring the depth of the mental problem you will never fully recover. We all know there are no "snap outs", and sudden changes, instant cures, "sudden and fast reliefs" in depression, but if you're going in the right direction, there are definitely turning points. And for me, this new therapist, and the intense session (2 times per week), helped me realize the real depth of my problem, and I can say, know I'm coming out of depression. And it's harder than everything. And it hurts more than the depression itself. But at least I know I'm going somewhere. |

I'm glad to hear your good news. I agree that therapy shouldn't just be a "chit-chat" time, but rather it should require work on the part of the patient, getting at what might be triggering the depression.
Of course, the initial sessions can be just talking--so the therapist and the patient can get comfortable with each other. Thanks for sharing your insights! ![]() ![]() |

Hello newlifeyeah,
I was s recently diagnosed with MDD, and have my first psychotherapy session on the 25th. I'm really looking forward to it. I had some one on one., as well as group psychotherapy when I was hospitalized in Feb. This will be my first psychotherapy since then. ![]() woundedhealer7 Sent from my GS3. |

but anyways I hope it will help ! The other thing I wanted to say, is when you are dealing with depression, you feel like you are the weakest, and the most alone you've ever been. Now basically why depression seems to be impossible to overcome is the fact that you have to be the strongest, when you are the most vulnerable and weak. And nobody from the outside can really help, if you can't help yourself. So what I'm trying to say, that this is why it's super hard, because you have to gather up that lost energy, and motivation and strength, and start curing yourself. You have to do the biggest task ever in your life, when you feel like you can't even move. That's why this illness, or condition is really hard to overcome. But once you feel you made the first step, it eventually will get easier. Because you will finally know what to do, and where to go. Just those first steps are the hardest. BUT YOU HAVE TO MAKE IT ![]() |

well of course you have to try one first
![]() and before that think about, what do you think makes a good therapist. What do you look for, what are your expectations. Do you have an idea of condition you want to be after a good amount of sessions? And then maybe think about whether you would imagine a female or a male therapist, to be best for you. I would say good results, and good signs can come pretty fast. And I would break it down to my first post in this thread = if it hurts, it works. good luck! |
