Lately I hae been having focus/motivation problems at work. I feel it is tied in to my depression, rather than a form of Adult ADD. Does anyone have any suggestions for renewing and maintaining my focus on my work? I work in an office doing project related work.

Have you tried any sort of breathing exercises? Whenever I couldn't focus on work i would just take a couple of minutes and do these, and it would help calm me down and renew a little of that focus i was missing.

You can do these without anyone even knowing you're doing then.

- Exhale completlely through your mouth, making a whosh sound.
-Close your mouth and inhale quietly through your nose until a mental count of four
-Hold your breath for a count of seven
-Exhale completly through your mouth, making a whosh sound to the count of eight.
This is one breath. Now inhale again and repeat the cycle three more times for a total of four breaths.

The ratio of this is 4:7:8. If you are having trouble holding your breath for that long then you can shorten the time, but just keep that same ratio. I hope this helps... it might take a couple times practice before you start to notice it (thats what i found) ... but it does after a while!

Hope this helps!

Yeah, breathing exercises are great. You can also try going for a quick walk during your lunch break to clear your head. Make sure you compile a to-do list, and tick things off as you go .. that can help, too. And make sure you're getting enough sleep and eating healthy foods.
It's horrible when you can't focus. Hope you're soon feeling better. Any suggestions for maintaining focus at work?

Try setting a deadline or challenge for yourself. When you make the deadline, treat yourself to doing something you want to do, but don't think you should (like finally rearranging your drawer). I find that an extra hour of sleep at night helps things along.

Lets us know if you find something that worked for you

Often depression makes us think there are just too many things, too much to accomplish. I find forcing myself to make a list of everything...often it is only in my head the horrendous numbers of things... and the list is manageable... then it's all down and helps me "see" what I can do next, or what I am not up to yet. My depression keeps me from even making that list in one sitting... so give yourself time to complete the list...maybe work on it as you try to organize your work each day... good wishes!
