I seem to go in fairly positive norms but all of a sudden start of spiral of getting more and more depressed. I wish I could stave off these spirals before they just suck me under. Not sure why they happen or how to stop it. I end up doing things like getting out of bed or taking care of myself but only out of fear. I am so afraid if I don't get out of bed then I never will on my own. I have just started one of these spirals and could use ideas to pull out of it. Any ideas out there?

Do I have this right? These spirals begin with not being able to get out of bed--you are okay the night before, but the next morning you just can't get up and face the day?
You say these spirals start suddenly, so it sounds as if you wake already very down. Any dreams? Any pre-sleep thoughts you can remember?
Have you talked with a therapist about this, or a psychiatrist? I'm bipolar, was treated for clinical depression for decades before the bipolar diagnosis (which I'm sure is accurate). I'm primarily depressed, but balanced most of the time now. There are people who throw me deep into depression, just being around them--I have to work to find my way back to balance. There are some foods that affect me, if I over-do ... alcohol also triggers depression for me. But I know these triggers and how they will affect me.
Sorry, I'm sure none of these are helpful. Keep writing about it--the above post is somewhat vague, so if you write more someone else might get an idea that will help.
Take care, tiggerandcrew, and welcome to PsychCentral!!

I suffer from both anxiety and depression. My pdoc has given me a green light to take extra anti-anxiety medication as necessary. Depending on the situation, I might take an extra dose of the anti-anxiety stuff to slow down a depressive spiral.

Please talk to (call, exchange emails, etc.) your doctors before departing from an established med regime.

Sorry that this is happening to you.
I used to have anxiety keep us inside and would only go outside for short bouts.
There were a couple of weeks when only about 3-5 hours per week were spent outside.
As I/We are disabled (mentally) there really was no need to go outside.

A few things helped us.

1) Calls from (2 children, early 20s, that adopted host as parent) and them saying that they loved us.
Perhaps you have some that you have a love bond with.

2) Littles inside going "crazy" couse they wanted to "play" outside
Course the question is, did we finally get out more couse the littles took over?
Note: We have found that in our area that people (even strangers ether accept or even like our littles [5 & 8])

3) Counselor (who we see once a month prescribed Ativan) 1mg as needed for anxiety, but only 20 tablets per 30 days.

Can't say that this will work for you. Only you know what is safe with your system.

Take Care and Stay Safe,
