Hello everybody, I was just wondering how many antidepressants did you get through before you hit on an Okay one. I was on Lexapro 30mgs as well as zyprexa 10mgs. That was hopeless, I was no better. Now, I'm on Remeron which I have to say I'm still very depressed but not as bad as I was on Lexapro. Where do we go from here. Whats your take. How many have you been on.

I've been on antidepressants for 40 years, and everyone I've taken has worked. Can you believe that? Trouble is, my memory is completely shot from other things, and I can only remember a couple that I've been on. LOL I've been on Cymbalta 60mg twice a day, and Prozac 20mg. That's what I'm on now. Big difference in dosages isn't there.

For the life of me, I cannot remember any others. I have brain damage from other illnesses, so it's all gone.

Wish I could help more. Hugs, Lee

I can't take them, but when they were trying them, we went through at least six. Everyone's body is slightly different, and what works for one is worthless to another. Most of them take a little time before you know if they are going to work. It takes some time for a therapeutic level to build up and stabalize in your system. The important thing is to keep close contact with your Dr. and report any side effects of problems. Never assume that information is not relevant. It might be, so the fastest, most effective way of finding the right one is reporting the results.

It never hurts to keep a small journal. Trying to remember a side effect that happened several days ago can be difficult, and if it is written down, you won't have to second guess your own evaluation. I'm not an M.D., but i am a DVM and can tell you that clients who keep records on the behavior and effectiveness of medications on their animals makes it easier for me to figure out where I want to go if the present medication isn't working. Interestingly enough, birds are often on some antidepressants for various behavioral problems, and they are the same medications that are given to to people.

oh Pierro I have been on antidepressants all of my adult life it seems. The first one was parnate a MAOI a very harsh med, I was on thorazine then too, haldol is another bad one but not an antidepressant. To the best of my memory the ADs I have been on are parnate, prozac, paxil, wellbutrin, abilify, cymbalta, zoloft and viibryd. The viibryd and abilify as well as seroquel are current and as far as i can see it is doing its job pretty well, my depressive symptoms are fairly good and I am coping better than in the past. Good luck with your hunt for the right med for you.

Started on zoloft - I think I was up to 200 mg. Then the zoloft with wellbutrin (300 mg) - that was almost like doing meth, but more jumpy. Then paxil at 30 mg. Now I've started on effexor (generic) - I'm only at 75 mg. now, but I've only just started it four weeks ago. So far, hardly any side effects (except for the wellbutrin - yeeha!!) and no problems weaning off of anything. Unfortunaltely, the depression is very much winning this battle. I've only been at this a year and a half.

Pot helps a tiny little bit for a tiny little while. I don't recommend it.
I don't drink at all anymore.

Oh. Initially tried St. John's Wort on my own for a few weeks, but I don't know if I was taking enough or too much or whatever. It didn't do anything.

I have been on Zoloft, Prozac, Lithium, Ritalin, Wellbutrin, Paxil, Lexapro, effexor, Pristiq, Provigil, Ambilify, trazodone. None worked. Some in fact made me much worse. I am on Lamictal and cymbalta right now with Ativan. It worked to keep me stable for 3 years but now it is as if it stopped working and I am having a bad depression now. Just went through a trail of abilify that made me worse and then Pristiq that made me worse. The only thing I have not tried is a maoi like the Ensam patch. My doctor seems hesitant to put me on that because I would have to do a wash out of my antidepressant cymbalta for 2 weeks and the depression could get worse, but I feel like I need to try whatever I can. I am just praying I find the right drug or right combination. My quality of life is so diminished.

I have probably tried about 20 and most not SSRIs as my body has the same bad reaction to them. I tried Remeron, too...first night I slept til 5 pm the next day (I was so out of it even then), and my pdoc said that side effect would probably only get 20% better over time. Pffft, yeah, I don't think that's going to work.

He wanted me to try Effexor as the last option he had the last appt I had but I just haven't as I am the 1 or 2% who gets the crazy side effects with these meds and Effexor seemed too scary to mess with.

So I take Klonopin, which never has helped with my anxiety, it just helps me with my nightmares and I am able to sleep (sometimes...my insomnia can also "beat" the Klonopin some nights, too). As for the depression...guess I just stay depressed.

Good luck to you, I hope you find the right med/med combo, and soon.

Wow am I jealous!! I've taken St. John's Wort, 13 antidepressants and 3 mood stabilisers and not one of them has helped and several of them have made me much worse.

I've taken:

SSRIs: citalopram/Celexa, fluoxetine/Prozac, sertraline/Zoloft & escitalopram/Lexapro

SNRIs: venlafaxine/Effexor & duloxetine/Cymbalta

NARI: reboxetine (not approved in US)

RIMA: moclobemide

Tricyclics: lofepramine/Gamanil, amitriptyline/Elavil & imipramine/Tofranil

Tetracyclic: mirtazapine/Remeron

Noradrenaline & dopamine: bupropion/Wellbutrin

Moodstabilisers: lithium, lamotrigine/Lamictal & quetiapine/Seroquel

And ironically the NHS won't let me have any therapy because my depression is too bad!!

Effexor XR, Lexapro then Zoloft. Even though I don't think it was because of the medication they still had to make me change what I was taking due to suicide attempts while on the first two. I really don't remeber how Effexor or Lexapro affected me since I was on them for such a short amount of time before it got changed to something else. Zoloft actually started to help a lot until I got to the point where I had no emotions, couldn't sleep, and had some other things that were going on as well, I'm going to give it one more chance though since it did help atleast most of the year I was on it, I don't know if it wore out or what I guess I'll see what happens when I start again
Thanks for this!

Due to migraine meds, my memory is shot. I can list most of the anti-depr, but not in order or dosage taken.
Prozac, Paxil & CR, Luvox, Anafranil, Serzone, Buspar, Wellbutrin & SR & XR, Remeron, Zoloft, Lithium, Abilify, Seroquel, anti-anxiety meds, benzodiaz, sleep aids, natural remedies (5-HTP, DHA, GABA, SAMe, St Jonhs Wort, exercise).

Have been on Effexor and XR (name brand) for over 15+ yrs. Effexor XR has had the least (most tolerable) side effects and is the only med to show any improvement. The generic doesn't work at all, for me.

My meds work for a short period of time then I plateau. Then it's time for another cocktail. I go round and round. Exhausting.
