My parents (mainly my mom) insist on spouting off derogatory remarks. A few examples:
Are you sure you aren't just making up depression to get out of doing work? Therapy is BS, don't do it. I'm so jealous of my friends, I wish I had a son like theirs. You're never going to amount to anything in life. How do I tune this out/deal with this? I've always thought of my parents as rational and caring beings but now I just... don't. Every time I hear something like this from them it makes me feel terrible and a lot worse. |

Hi 813i,
Im so sorry your going through this with your parents. I've been dealing with similar situation with my parents as well. Its not easy. I don't know if your in therapy, but I suggest you try it. It may or may not work. Everyone is different and it can be hard to find a therapist that works for you. For me I've been going to a therapist, & it helps to be able to talk about those things. To have someone reasure me that im worth something. Or that its okay to feel upset Don't believe what they said, its not true. Sometimes people(parents included) don't understand what your going through. They may be frustrated/scared/upset and this is their way of dealing with it, even though its not a good way. Do you have someone you can talk to about it? Or you could write/draw how your feeling..sometimes getting it out helps. Also have you ever talked to your parents about how you feel when they treat you like this? Hang in there. ![]() ~Scout7 "I need a drop of grace to carry me today"

I had the same thing going, not sure when or how it stopped affecting me in a big way. Though i don't think it would end unless you deal with it, speak it out to someone. But believe that her saying this is not about/because of you it's about her. Like:
"I'm so jealous of my friends, I wish I had a son like theirs." Why is she jealous of friends, why isn't she happy with her life? She's just blaming the son part on you. Ignore it. Good Luck. |

Hi 813i
I get you. My mom is that way too.. she spends more time harping about the side effects of my medication than actually trying to understand my condition. Sure, they foot the bills.. but they don't really support it. Mom has even went "You don't want me as a mother right?" which is not true at all and I broke down so bad. I don't have an answer either. For me, I'll just totally tune out or listen to music. Which I know is rude.. but so long as it saves me from going back into a crisis. Hoping you'll be able to get through this ![]()

Why are mothers such triggers? Mine said anyone who had signs of mental illness should be slapped upside the head, which she did on a regular basis. anyway, good luck to you.
