My T suggested yesterday that I try taking 2000mg of fish oil a day to help with depression.
I'm going to give it a go.
Has anyone else tried fish oil?
Did it help?
Thanks

Interesting, never heard of this. My diet (not on a diet.. Just food) is a mess and I doubt I'd have the patience or ability to keep taking it... Did google it though and was quite interesting. Good luck, tell us how it goes

My T is actually a psychiatrist and he believes that fish oil really can work for some people.
There is a lack of research on it as the drug companies don't want to spend money researching something that would not benefit them.
I'll let you know how it goes...

Hello, Purple Orchid. My primary care physician has me taking fish oil for reasons other than depression. I cannot discern where it has had any effect on my mood one way or the other.

ToeJam - Thanks for the link to the article.

Well, I've been taking it for nearly week now ( 2000mg per day) and I'm happy to report back that I do feel better.
I feel like I've got far more energy and am finding it easier to get up and do things , which is helping with my mood.
Hooray for fish oil.
Give it a go, what have you got to lose???

I was in the health food shop the other day and saw they had an offer on jars of Omega 3 capsules which were on the top shelf. I reached up to get one but unfortunately knocked one off which fell on my head. I was hurt, but not seriously as it was only a superfishoil injury.

Well, I just wanted to report back to let you know how the fish is going.
I've been taking it for just over 3 months now, my skin, hair and nails seem in better condition.
However, I'm sorry to say it does not seemed to have made any difference with the depression.
I'm going to carry on taking it as I have no side effects and I'm sure it must be good for me in some way...

There is a lot of information available regarding the use of Omega-3 Fish Oils for Depression. There are numerous books written on the subject. I myself am on Fish Oils and can report that they are highly effective against episodes of Depression. I take 8-GM of Omega-3 Fish Oils per day, along with vitamin C, D and E. Try reading Dr. Andrew Weil, MD's book entitled "Spontaneous Happiness" which addresses the use of Omega-3 Fish Oils for Depression.

I've been taking this for a little while although I tend to forget. I recall there are different types that are better than others. I can't for the life of me remember where. I think it was a book. So I took a photo. This is from a bottle of Norwegian Gold.

There are tabs that don't do that. The Norwegian gold doesn't. I just hate horse pills!

Hi Denmen,
Thanks for your reply.
8gm that's a lot of fish oil. Glad its working for you.
I only take 2mg maybe I should try taking more.
I don't have any fishy taste after I take my capsules.
I think its definately worth a go...

Wow, Michanne, yours are very high in Epa and DHA, more than twice the best we could get around here. (On sale - I'm a bargain shopper.) Those should give good results for brain health and general health.

I just wish they weren't horse pills. I take gummy vitamins because I can't stand the horse pills and the meds are annoying enough. Always hated pills.

LOL ptangptang. You gave me my first laugh of the day. Any time you want to PM and make me laugh some more, I'd welcome it. Sometimes I think that retaining a sense of humor during chronic depression is the only thing that keeps me going and makes me feel that I'm not a hopeless case.

All you need to know is here: Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Bipolar Disorder - Psycheducation.org

This is the kind I buy: Amazon.com: Nutrigold Triple Strength Omega-3 Gold (1,060 mg Omega-3s per softgel), 1250 mg, 180 softgels: Health & Personal Care

Another secret of mine is to eat a hard boiled egg yolk everyday. If you decide to go with regular fish oil, I would recommend krill oil because it contains

Dagg I was really hoping that the fish oil helps with depression. My husband needs something, the only thing is he will not take a pill, it has to be something that can be mixed in his juices without any type of taste.
