This is the least favorite time of year for me. I very much suffer summer depression. It is hot tonight and it's very noisy outside. It's like a zoo. Also I feel like my loneliness is in the spotlight more. I feel like lots of people can see me very easily.
I really miss the winter months. Well, at where I live, winter seems like nothing. Now it's putting up with hot and uncomfortable weather in which I do not have much energy. And having to put up with loud noises and screaming kids. It seems like this time of year really drags for me. Time goes by so slow. It's still July! During the months from October to April, the time really flies. |

I read an article the other day about summer depression. There really is such a thing. It's like SAD but in the summer rather than fall or winter months. I don't much care for summer, either, so I can empathize. It seems more energetic, and even before I was dealing with all my anxiety issues and what happened to me, I felt rather strange in the summer. It seems things start to calm down in the fall, and I relax inside. At least summer is starting to wind down. Soon it'll be fall and then winter before you know it. I think my favorite time is October, and I'm looking forward to it. I'm wondering if the summer and warmer weather is what's keeping my anxiety afloat and hoping the change of seasons may help me.

July sucks balls. Its seedy and weedy and hot and muggy and all the idiots come out at night to make loud noises and spray big spray.

I wonder if it's more common in the hotter climates.
But yes, summer depression can be a form of seasonal depression. The winter blues is more common, but some of us get the summer blues. My depression intensifies in the summer, so I can sympathise. I feel horrible, being stuck inside while other people are 'enjoying' their summer. And so much emphasis is put on being happy in the summer, that I find my depression intensifies a lot because of that. And the heat. I can't stand the heat. I keep reminding myself that fall is coming. It helps sometimes. ![]()

When outside is miserable and we stay inside, it may as well be winter for the sunshine we get.

Summer definitely has it's downsides. I live in LA w/o AC and it's absolutely miserable. The people constantly shooting off fireworks every night and screaming outside don't help either. I desperately miss the Fall and Winter months of back east. Winter will come... I'd try to find ways to tolerate the summer for the time being.

It is not much talked about like SAD is but it is quite common. I hit one the first hot week in spring and then another mid summer. My depression is very seasonal and cyclical. Seasonal circadian rhythms. There is some evidence that taking melotonin in the afternoon can help.

I completely understand the way that you feel. It's almost as if summer is the biggest part of the year, because it drags on so slowly. I've been feeling fine, but summer started, and it all started to feel terrible again. But hopefully, this summer ends quickly.

Summer where i am goes on peacefully, the thing i hate is all the bugs that come out at this time of year. But the fact that you can go around half-naked makes you feel comfortable in the house ^_^

Thanks for all of your replies. It sounds like a given to me that people who live in the sunbelt areas (like southern US) tend to not like summer, while people in the north prefer summer. I think that it's not that hard to understand.
In the sunbelt areas, winters tend to be ideal. The days are cool or warm, but not cold with snow. But summers can be hot and noisy. In the northern areas, summers would be pleasant. But the winters can be brutal. I read somewhere that in places like India, people there have SAD during the summer months. So I guess that explains it. |

I think that Summer makes us focus on our depression more because if you are not asking yourself people are asking you are you enjoying the long bright sunny days .

I don't care for summer either. It's way too hot. Where I live if you stay outside long enough you feel like you will suffocate in the heat, not to mention sweat to death. I prefer fall and winter. I have more energy in cool weather.

I thought I was rare by not liking summer. But living in the southern part of the US, it's not hard to understand. It's extremely hot and humid ( like stay outside too long and you'll die kind of heat.) There's always the endless cycle of grass to cut. And did I mention the giant bugs and spiders?
On top of that, all over Facebook people post these great vacation pics of the vacation you didn't take. There they are with their loving family. The family that you don't have glaring in your face. The good times you don't have become painfully obvious. Sigh. I hate summer. |

I hate summer too. I like to walk my friend's dog every day for exercise. In the summer, I have to do it around 6 am and around 7:15 pm to be comfortable. In the other months, I can do it anytime I want.

I hate summer too. It is so warm all the time and it makes it so hard to sleep at night. Plus I'm suffering so much right now.
