Last night my husband and I started catching up on the almost month's worth of Daily Shows and Colbert Reports we have DVRed from when I was inpatient. Watching these shows was always the highlight of the evening. We would get the kids to bed and then come downstairs and watch TV for a bit. Last night was horrible. I felt dead inside to the jokes and couldn't wait for it to end. I'm really coming to hate this depression even more. We're going to try again this morning because he goes into work late but I don't have high hopes.

I'm sorry that something you used to enjoy isn't the same any more.

Maybe part of it is that the routine is changed, instead of it being something you did as almost a daily ritual, you know put the kids to bed, watch your favorite shows, you are trying too hard to make up for lost time.

Thanks. Maybe we were trying to hard to get back into old routines. We watched an episode of the Daily Show this morning and while it was still a bit tedious, I did get some enjoyment from it.

It sounds like you are putting a lot of pressure on yourself.
Thanks for this!

I understand how you feel. I didn't know I was depressed when I quit doing things that I had enjoyed for many years. Now everything is gone. I used to watch the news for entertainment, I totally don't care anymore. Don't care about movies, washing my car, cooking nice meals. Those used to all be things I enjoyed.

But I'm new to treatment. Like I said, I didn't know, or at least didn't think of myself as depressed. Just thought I was growing out of that stuff and couldn't figure out why. Now I'm starting to learn why.
