I am struggling with work at the moment. I work night shifts. 12 hours a night 4 days on, 4 days off. I am stressed all the time because I am left on my own to support approx 30 business accounts with their IT issues. I don't feel it's fair to be left on my own all night. It's hard work. I lost the plot this morning. Stressing out at one of the morning staff to take a call off me as I was leaving soon and have to take my child to school. They don't seem to care. I feel on the verge of a nervous breakdown and I dread going into work. Everyone else rings in sick but I'm such a fool that I come into work, come hell or high water. Dunno what to do. I guess I just wanted to vent.

I hear you. I had a night job too and I was by myself as well to care for a rural community hospital er, icu and all emergencies. It was sometimes all I could do to just put out fires (so to speak). I know your feelings of being overwhelmed. The day shift didn't care about me either. Just do what is humanly possible and learn to care for yourself as others can't do that for you. You are not a fool for coming in to work. It will help you in the long run. Keep trying and see if things smooth out as they mostly always do.

Take care of yourself as you are worth it.
Thanks for this!

Thank you sideblinded. I knew the job wouldn't be the easiest when I took it but it was more the financial side of things. I needed a better income so I took it. If I didn't need the money then I don't think I'd be doing a job as stressful. I guess it's just getting to me at the moment. But it would be good to see the light at the end of the tunnel eventually.

I've always had the utmost respect for anyone who works in a profession that involves night shift. And juggling the responsibility of your kids too. It's a huge thing you do.

It doesn't seem as if the change over system is very supportive- you've got responsibilities outside of work that you need to attend to.

As hard as it is, you also need to consider your own well being. As hard as it is if you need a day (night) off, do what is in the best interests of you.

I think you're doing an admirable job.
Thanks for this!

Thank you. I suppose even if they said they appreciated how difficult it is sometimes I might feel a little different about it. Maybe I ask too much. But when I have to finish work and then start my other responsibilities, I'd just like them to acknowledge that this is not the only thing I have to do in a day
