I can't get out of bed, I need to go to the market. I need to take my morning meds. I need to drink water. I need to eat. It's just so cold. I don't want to move. It's about to be noon and I have gotten up, it takes so much effort like gravity is multiplied.

Being cold makes me so depressed. I am miserable and never want to get out of bed either. I can't function in the cold and I go through bad depressive episodes in winter.

Yes it's true. A cold room is just another reason not to wake up and get out of bed.

Notice that if you really decided to sleep in, you could enjoy sleeping in, and if you really decided to get up, you could get up. You're stuck in the middle, unable to decide, with the reasons why you should get up running through your head. It may seem incidental, but I really think that this inability to decide is actually very close to the core of depression. See

When someone says something like this in a chat room, I sometimes use my Ironic Drill Sargent persona. I would say stuff like this:

DROP YOUR PHONE AND GET OUT OF BED RIGHT NOW MAGGOT!!
DROP DOWN AND GIVE ME 10 PUSH-UPS RIGHT NOW!!!!!

It's all in fun as we're both in on the joke, but you know what? It works anyway. Ironic Drill Sargent Therapy (tm).

Thanks for this!

It does but so can extreme heat. Or just about anything at times. But yeah, cold weather is tough for me too. I'm not one of those people who can add an extra layer or two of clothing and be comfortable. I wear extra clothing but I'm still cold and uncomfortable from the extra clothing.

I feel the cold more when I'm depressed, it becomes acutely painful almost as though I am being stabbed over and over. Normally I would prefer cold to heat but I don't like this feeling at all.

I agree, I hate getting out of bed when it's cold. I like to stay cuddled up with my puppy dogs, even when I'm not depressed.

I can usually acclimate to climate pretty quick. So far it has been a warm winter here in Northern Michigan (30's). Tonight it is getting down to 4 degrees, so a big change fast and that for sure makes it more difficult.

All the years I lived in central CA I had to get used to the summers and work outside in it. We are talking 105 degrees for weeks at a time and working right in the bright sun all day. By the end of the summer I could pick up a piece of black iron pipe bear handed that had to be 160 degrees and not feel it.

You get to where you close all the blinds and crank up the AC and hide from the sun all you possibly can. Actually the first hot week of spring in CA always triggered a depression for me. A bad one. Every year. This would be in May when it got into the 90's. It's the first big shock of heat after perfect temps all spring.
