What do you eat when you don't care about eating? I need to get some food at home, but I don't want to cook, either. Frozen microwave dinners are what I usually get, but I want suggestions, including for breakfast and lunch.

When I don't feel like I can do anything, I say to myself 'Meals on Wheels is NOT coming' to shame myself into getting some food. I'm able-bodied, with a car, but the way I behave, is like I'm ready for Meals on Wheels.

I don't know if I can be of much help but I do know how you feel.
Try fresh fruits and vegetables. Our grocery store has salads and fruit already prepared. The salads even come with dressing. Just pop the lid and enjoy. There are also bags of salad where all you need is a bottle of your favorite dressing.
In the meat section there are already prepared main dishes that you just heat and serve. They even have containers of mashed potatoes, scalloped potatoes etc.
When things were really bad, I use to just make milk shakes with those healthy powders they have.
Then there is always grocery list a great comfort food.

The hardest part is making yourself eat when nothing look good. I just hope I was of some help.

Yes, thanks a lot. Just to hear that someone else knows the feeling means a lot. And, thanks for the suggestions.

(((((Reesie)))))))

I usually get tired out making it when I'm very much depressed - but I like pasta. It's a "feel good" food because of what it does to your system too.

When I feel depressed I eat Lean Cuisine meals. They usually have good specials every couple weeks so I can stock up and they're relatively healthy. Sometimes all I want to eat is something like popcorn or toast which doesn't have a lot of nutrition so what I've been trying lately is to buy those little egg cartons with just 6 eggs and then at the beginning of the week I hard boil them and keep them in the fridge. That way I can at least get a little protein with out actually having to do anything.

When I am in the mood to make something - I usually make the whole package - like if I had 3 lbs of chicken breasts I would grill up the whole package.

Some can be refrozen, some can be made into sandwiches or main entrees or even chicken salad.

That way when you don't feel like making anything it pretty much is done.

My stand by is always to have frozen pizza on hand...

I'm incredibly lazy, Reesie. I haven't gone grocery shopping in quite a while. I usually eat Lebanese take-out that I pick up on my way home from the office. When I do go to the grocery store, I usually buy cheese, yogourt and microwaveable dinners. There's a relatively healthy, low-fat brand in Canada called Blue Menu by President's Choice.

When I had a bit more energy and was preparing my own food at home, these are the things I bought (all very easy to prepare):

Bags of salad -- having all the veggies chopped up and washed and ready to eat made it much easier for me.

Boneless, skinless chicken breasts -- I would freeze them individually in small freezer bags, so I could just defrost one and cook it at dinner time. Sometimes, I bought a box of individually frozen (unseasoned) chicken breasts. They're easy too.

Sweet potatoes -- They last for a long time and cook very quickly in the microwave and they're filling and easy on my tummy (I have IBS).

Brussels sprouts -- They're my favourite veggie and the frozen ones are easy to prepare.

Cereal -- I like Weetabix, Grape Nuts and Cheerios. They're pretty darn easy to prepare, so I sometimes had cereal for dinner.

Eggs -- I like them for dinner sometimes, just scrambled or poached.

V8 juice -- It's easier than chopping veggies.

Low sodium canned soup -- Really easy and yummy with a piece of Ryvita and some cheese.

Hummus and pita bread -- Yummy, lots of fibre, no prep involved.

When I was being more self-disciplined, I used to make myself a mango-banana smoothie (with soy milk, acid-free orange juice and psyllium) for breakfast every morning.

Two words - Kraft Dinner!

I know its such a "kids" meal but it's honestly been my favourite food for as long as i can remember, and whenever i'm upset its just such a comfort for me ...

well i've gone through alot this past week and everything food wise has made me want to throw up. I couldn't even look at it or anything.

My friends made me sip on an Up & Go liquid breakfast. Seemed to be the only thing I could manage for a few days.

And drink plenty of fluids. Thats just my tip for when u can't seem to eat much!
