I've gotten into the worst habit of hitting the snooze button for an hour, till the exact last minute I have to get up and make it out the door to be somewhat on time for work.

I know it's the depression and just wanting to sleep but has anyone figured out a way to make getting up less troublesome. I'm in trouble at work for being late a few times so I really can't chance it but even so I wait till the last minute or even past that to get up and I don't really seem to care about the consequences.

I think that's part of the depression. The generalized apathy - the "I don't care attitude". I have to get going several hours before I have to be at work and leave before I think I need to in order to ever be on time. I end up getting up super early, even though I work into the evening. I kind of have to plan in some "lazy time" into my morning routine. I also work out in the morning and that seems to help get me moving as well. You're definitely not alone though.

Good advice from pinkflower sometimes getting up takes all your determination, and some! Once you get up, don't forget to praise yourself, even though you don't feel deserving. Hang on in there and be kind to yourself.

Hi Apathy, can seem like climbing a mountain........."just" getting up......the thought of starting another day sometimes, can't it??!!
Still, just some thoughts for you:
Maybe put your alarm clock way out of reach, so as you're going to have to get up/at least walk across the room to shut up the noise,
Keep reminding yourself of the end of the day, when you can just "crash"........maybe an odd incentive, but when things are bad...........,
Plan in something you want to do at some point in the day........maybe a bit more positive of an incentive ,
If some of it is about sleep, maybe try going to bed earlier/have a relaxing nighttime routine.......although I know it isn't always about that is it??!!,
Any music you could put on first thing that might give you just a little bit of a boost??
Write down all the consequences of not getting up in time.......sometimes harder to ignore when they're staring you in the face "in black and white",
If you have a friend who can phone you........and not give up when you don't answer first time!!!,
Got/get a pet?? which can actually sometimes help some people. And a pet you're going to have to get up to do something for,
If you think........maybe a meds review, if things are real hard???
So just a few thoughts of the top of my head..........
Hoping something, even if not any of the above works for you.

Alison

I have a similar problem . I found I was able to trick myself out of bed a couple of times by thinking "maybe today won't be completely awful" I know it sounds dumb, but it was such an improvement over my normal morning pattern of thinking that it got me out of bed.

Maybe you can make a list of positive thoughts the night before and put them by your bed for the morning. Hopefully at least one will resonate enough to get you over the first hurdle. Just don't make them so super positive that you can't even resonate with them. That will just make you feel worse.
Thanks for this!

I've been struggling with this lately, too. What helps me a little is to keep my hairbrush, make-up, etc. within reach of my bed so that I can start getting ready for the day without actually having to get out of bed. Sometimes it makes it easier to get myself on my feet if I already have started the process of getting myself ready for the day.
