I really don't know if this post belongs here, if it doesn't I apologize. But does anyone else suffer from seasonal affective disorder in the summer? I have it big time. The heat and the shorter days...it messes with my mood, my energy, sleep.
i don't even like the windows open. the windows are covered with dark curtains to block the sun, and fans and a/c are on full blast whenever possible.

the ironic thing is we live in a beautiful natural playground. there are lakes, parks, activities outdoors galore. i don't want to do any of it. tomorrow i'm going to try to force myself to take my kids to the local beach at a lake, but if we don't get there by 9 in the morning and leave by 10 or so, it will just be too hot and sunny to handle.

i love living in a rural area but have no desire to be outside in it, especially this time of year. another thing that makes me weird i guess.

If it's making you sad, fatigued, and made you have troubles in sleep, then your post belongs right here!!

It's okay if you can't handle the heat Where I live, the sun is punishing, and I can't even go to school without being completely drained, and I have missed classes because of that, and as I recall, my depression made it even worse, making me completely fatigued, not wanting to outside, kind of like what you're going through. However, you seem to have a good timing plan, you just need to follow it, and take your kids early to the beach so that all of you have enough time to enjoy.

I'm so glad that you're trying to break free of that feeling, and that is something not everybody can do!! You should be proud of yourself

I wish you all luck for tomorrow! I hope it goes well for you all!!

Smileonmyface, I hate summer too. I think I have seasonal affective disorder in the summer. It is just too hot to go outside. And when I can't enjoy the outdoors that adds to my depression. It has been 98 degrees everyday here. Today was good. It was only 92. I have to close my curtains to block the sun. My air conditioning runs almost constantly. I hate to see what the a/c bill is going to be.

I also try to do my errands and going out in the morning before it gets too hot. My husband and I went to the beach last weekend. We went at 6:00AM so he could take sunrise pictures. By 10:30AM it was so hot we were ready to leave. I understand completely.

I'm often more low in the summer, in UK it's not desperately hot, but maybe SAD or something that happened in summers when I was young that coloured my mood later in life. At least I can remind myself that winter can be less awful so I hang on for a better season. I don't know, but the effect is less obvious now I'm older so maybe hope for you. Sending compassionate thoughts, Be kind to yourself

I have some summer happiness. Things slow down quite a bit here in Boston, which means there are less distractions which gives me time to think and makes me calmer and happier. Summer means that fruits and vegetables are mostly in season. All you have to do is walk to your neighborhood grocery store and you can get so many wonderful and colorful foods that are just great for you. Summer or winter, I have all of human knowledge at my fingertips. I'm old enough not to take that for granted. It makes me appreciate the good side of modern society. Best of all, I love going for long walks in the breezy summer evenings. I'm also really into yoga and yogic breathing these days too.

I can relate-it's hot where I live and when I have time to tend the garden for instance, it's too hot to do it. The heat just drains you. It helps a little to read when it's hot and be active after the sun goes down an it cools off some. I hope you feel better soon!
