ive been on a lot of meds during my life and once my depression kicked in all of my meds stopped working and now i cant find a med that works. well at least a legal med that works. i just want to have a chance to feel normal again without having to break the law or things even worse. i know ive done bad things and that my past may be the reason for this but how can i feel good if everything tells me to feel bad and no one seems to be able to help. all they say is take these meds or talk to your doctor or talk to a therapist. the meds dont work and no one seems to want to listen.

Antidepressants usually don't work in the long run because of "oppositional tolerance." The usual thing is that they help for a while, but then your brain compensates in the opposite direction. The risk is that you end up still depressed, possibly with side effects, but now unable to stop taking the drug without suffering withdrawal. Lucky for you, there are lots of safe ways to try to get better. These often work and most of them are just great for your health anyway. You've got nothing to lose by trying these: http://forums.psychcentral.com/4262681-post105.html It can also be very helpful to look at these notes: http://egg.bu.edu/~youssef/SNAP_CLUB...0164151576.pdf ![]() |

hi jman,
I was like that too in my past .I tried serazone, Zoloft,Xanax, ativan ,trazodone , and paxil . these meds failed me in the past.I talked to my therapist and my psychiatrist about the meds . my therapist noticed that the paxil was ineffective for me cuz my anxiety level was high and not under control. my psychiatrist put me on Cymbalta and Vistrail . these two meds that I'm on are working like a charm for me .it takes time to find the right combination of medication that will work for you. medication isn't one size fits all or one medication to fix your illness . you have to give the meds time for it work .basically for your meds to work you need to give it at least 4 -6weeks in order for them to reach therapeutic level. Diagnosis: Anxiety and depression meds : Cymbalta 90mgs at night Vistrail 2 25 mgs daily for anxiety prn 50 mgs at night for insomnia

btw if I was not clear - my point is that eventually you will get there. It may take some time (hopefully less time than it took me) - but you WILL get there if you can just hang in there.
Best of luck to you.

jman – in the 30 years that I've been on one antidepressant after another, I found one that finally worked in 2000 and another in June or July of this year.
In 2000 I was an inpatient at the main campus of Georgia Regional Hospital and the gave me Nardil. It worked great but it took my blood pressure to stroke levels so I was only on it for 6 weeks. This year my GP started me on Effexor and it has been like the bread of life for me. I have some other problems still but my depression is not the greatest of them any longer. Sometimes you just have to find someone who really has a grip on psychopharmacology to play around and find the right meds that work for you. |
