For the first time today I read of someone who had a similar experience with depression. One day I came home from work, ate dinner, did whatever, and went to sleep. When I woke for work the next morning I was incapacitated. I thought I had a stroke. I could make it to the bathroom but that was it. I live alone and didn’t want anyone to know. When I hadn’t eaten in four days I realized that if I didn’t get help I would die. I had so little cognitive ability that I didn’t think to call my boyfriend or children. I somehow got to my doctor’s office. I never return to my office again. I thought I had a stroke. How can a person go from being completely functional to being incapacitated overnight and with no trigger. I was never depressed yet functional. I crashed. I haven’t been able to find a doctor who can explain this to me. Did your depression come on gradually or was your experience similar to mine? I’d appreciate any information you can share.

That really is strange, I'm not sure if I've ever heard of anyone else experiencing that. Just to check, have you been checked for possible physical causes, really thoroughly?

Yes. I've been to every kind of doctor there is, neurologists, psychologists, cardiologists, had every kind of test you can imagine, memory, balance, MRIs, on and on. I am coming around to the conclusion that I was a highly functioning depressive and didn't know it. And then one night my body stopped because my brain couldn't. Thanks for responding.

In my latest episode, I hit a brick wall too. One day I was ok, the next I had fallen apart, just like my body would have if I'd been in a car crash.
I'm so sorry you experienced this too. I wish/pray you can find some hope soon. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

My first depressive episode came on quite sudden as well, but I was already feeling sad and lonely before that. But I was functioning.
Then one day I was on my way to school on my bike, I'd only made it about ten minutes away from my home, and out of nowhere I just started crying and couldn't stop. Turned around and went home and didn't go back to school for two months. |

Mine came on suddenly. One day I was fine and the next I had a terrible migraine and then the next day I couldn't stop crying. It's been up and down ever since and that was 32 years ago. I fight depression ever day with some mania from time to time, but mostly depression. I sucks. My heart goes out to you.

That's happened to me on more than one occasion. Thing is though, I don't think I can really weigh in too much here considering my depressive states happen in cycle (BP). However, it didn't last four days at that severity, only has ever been up to 2 1/2 days before I get up to eat and shower. I'm sorry you went through this.

I just thought, (it's a very long shot) you weren't recently given a (different) hormonal birth control pill or implant.
In susceptible people it causes sudden onset of depression. I guess that isn't the case, would be nice if it was so easy, but physicians don't always make the connection. Best wishes with everything you're trying.
