No, I won't be able to support myself. I'm quitting my part time job and im dropping out of my school. I just can't do anything okay? I mean there's no point in finishing high school because I can't even imagine myself going to university and just sitting and listening to someone speak at lectures. I can't sit. and listen. I just can't imagine myself doing that. School is so overwhelming, and I go to a special school for mental illness. My school says im doing much better than everyone else, little do they know I push myself way harder than I want to and then come home feeling like a zombie. I can't show up to my job because im a disaster, and I quit all the activities I used to enjoy. I have dreams of being a child and adolescent psychiatrist, but I can't imagine myself going through the school work. I just can't. I feel like a failure. I feel like part of this may be that my dad has taught me since I was a kid that I have to be absolutely perfect. I can't. And.. im just done.

Going to school might be depressing, but going through life with barely any money and working the worst shifts on the worst jobs there are... that will be much worse.
Please reconsider, get some counselling and guidance and find a way to get through it. University is much different and more stimulating. (maybe going to "mental illness highschool"might be actually part of the problem)?

Take it from a drop out, don't do it. You'll regret it, trust me.
Talk to the counselor, explore different options to help assist you. They're willing to work with you if they know you have a drive to try.

I know school is hard, but as others say, life is even harder without education. Reach out to people. You deserve help.

One of my daughters ultimately did the work to get her GED (Graduation Equivalency Diploma) after being unable to complete High School, and maybe something like that could be an option for you. Another possibility is to just do what you reasonably can right there where you are (even if you fail some courses) and then later see about alternatives for taking care of the deficiencies. Whatever you might decide, however, just please do try to keep in mind that giving up too early is almost never a good idea.

Please don't drop out. I understand that it's difficult to focus on your studies but at least finish high school. Get your high school diploma and you can always decide later if you want to attend college/university. Anyone can go back to get a college degree but you can't go back to high school. Please don't do anything drastic and weigh out the pros/cons. I would hate to see you regret this later.

I dropped out because I couldn't handle how depressed the people there made me and I had some other issues. Honestly I don't regret it. I got my GED and worked a lot. Sure I had to work my way up but I now have an awesome stable salary paying Job at an insurance brokerage. Honestly, if you do drop out at least get your GED. It's the same as a diploma no matter what anyone tells you. You can still go to college whenever you want. You can still pursue your dreams. School isn't for everyone, it wasn't for me at all and I was doing really well too. If you have parents who support you maybe they would be okay with you managing your job or school. Maybe both isn't what you need. I choose work over school at 16. I mean that wasn't the only deciding factor. I know my parents were not too thrilled I stopped going. But they eventually got over it. And I made something of myself. I'm. Sure this isn't the answer most people here wanna read. But you may be balancing too much. Maybe you can't handle work and school. Maybe you need a break. Just end up with a diploma or GED at the end. You will Thank yourself down the road.

Talk to your doctors and psychiatrists - on your own. I see you are in Canada. You are allowed to make your own health decisions including appointments. The results of these are supposed to remain private - unless there is a risk of harm involved. I am guessing this school has a counselor available. Talk to them if you can.
Is there an extended family member you can turn to like an aunt that you trust? Sometimes dealing with our close family members is difficult but a more distant one can be more objective. Fnally, give yourself the permission to make a mistake. Allow yourself the freedom to enjoy the work rather than master it. Your healthcare team should be able to help you with the issue with your father. |
