One of the guys who works for me just had his first kid. Unfortunately, his wife has severe post partum depression.
He has no medical insurance at this time (he is on a short term contract until 30 Sep) and I don't know what type of coverage his wife's work policy provides her. I need some help finding resources/a direction he can go in to: 1. get help financing the help she needs, 2. find support and helpful docs. They spent this morning doing psych tests... but he came back frustrated because one doc refused to assist unless she joined his program... and wouldn't recommend an alternative (they couldn't work baby care and transportation issues for that program)... and another kept saying "just wean yourself off the Xanax? which she said wasn't working. Any recommendations for new directions they can research? Thanks! V/R Hunter |

Most counties in the US have community mental health centers. In those they have p'docs that come in regularly as well for meds.
I would suggest calling the nearest one, explaining that it is post-partum and asking for an appt. ASAP They go according to income and if there is insurance, many times take ins. pymnts as pymt in full. Good luck! What a good friend you are! KD

Local community mental health centers offer sliding scale fees based off of the family size and income. Also it may be possible for her to qualify for a medical card through the state. But there are a lot of factors that come into play for that.

Hello Hunter. If your friend calls the Obstetrician/Gynecologist that delivered the baby the Gynecologist can refer your friends wife to County Mental Health and get her in there faster than just scheduling the Appt herself or himself. Going to Jobs and Family Services in the county can help with food stamps and possibly medical for the baby and mother of the baby. The WIC program can help with formula for the baby as well for free. Salvation Army can help with utility bills food, and rent if needed at this time for your friends. Take care. Soidhonia
