all kinds of crap gets shoved down our throats, ssri's, antipshychotic's, snri's, trcicicylic, benzo's, therapies, all kinds of diagnosis and personality disorders. Doctors play god with our lives. I' agree that there is a vital, indispensable place for all these psychiatric tools in treating mental illness. I definitely don't deny that.
But i wonder what if the thing that's broken inside me ( inside many of us), needs something else, something more real to heal. Sometimes i wonder if a little love and care, is all we need. |

Love probably can't heal depression, but it definitely helps. I'm sorry for whoever is not getting enough support in their lives

I also have a lot of love, care and support and am still severely depressed. My therapist did say, however, that I have several unresolved traumas in my life that are definitely exacerbating it.

I think having love and support from people in our lives is awesome, and beneficial to our mental health. That being said, I don't think it is enough to overcome severe depression. In those cases, extra treatment such as medication, therapy, or even ECT may be warranted and there is nothing wrong with that!

I'm sorry about the mean people in your life
![]() There is a very bad quote I dislike intensely but which may "fit" for some very mean people.. "It is better to be alone than badly accompanied" I wish you love and that some good people enter your life (irl) And we are all here for you ![]()

Yes, you are right. Meds, therapy and so on can be important ingredients, but a little: "I see you, I understand that you have hard burdens to carry, You a need a rest, What about a good dinner today, I hope for you because you have struggled so much that you deserve to have a good life", will not harm us, but probably help us along the road! ![]() ![]() |

We have to have a combination of love, support, and then we have to keep as much a positive attitude as possible and work as hard as possible at getting ourselves better. Too many people have been told "take this drug and you will feel better" .. so why try to do anything for ourselves? Not saying nobody tries - a lot of us do try. But I know many of us become lazy with trying if they don't feel better "soon enough". That's all just opinion though. |

Quite a few years ago I was diagnosed with depression. I got a prescription for it and it didn't help one bit. And then some panic attacks followed.
It seems like at my job I get along fairly well with the other employees. I rarely get personally close to them. At other avenues in my life (home at my condo complex & churches) I feel no love. At home people are into themselves and at churches they are superficial. So at that those two avenues that's when I feel depressed. I feel a lot more depressed on the weekends. One time I told a neighbor that I had panic attacks. He told me I get them because I am alone. There was a time when I had a very good friend that lived next door to me. It was a great time and I felt like I didn't have the depression as much. At the same time the people at my complex were much nicer than now. At church I just basically come and go. I don't feel very well fit into there. |

Some of us are really suffering from this, in the sense that it's not only a missing element of daily life, a blown out lightbulb we could replace easily. For some of us, it's the material that had been left out from the construction of our being. Or severly reduced. So we feel it every day, the feeling without the thought, the pain without the name. |

Ok, thank you
![]() I just wondered since one of the "symptoms" is lack of empathy (and sometimes void of much true emotion at all - they learn to mimic responses to stimuli in order to obtain the outcomes they desire... sounds harsh on their end, but it's what they know life to be) |
