Where can I find a Suicide ideation scale? Surely there is one. I've seen scales for pain with 0 being no pain at all and 10 being the worst pain you've ever felt.
Is there something like that for suicide? Obviously it's all subjective but it does provide a baseline. All I could find after a quick google search was a questionnaire for Drs to give out.

I'm sorry but I have never seen one. I just know that my suicidal thoughts are pretty much constant and I feel that I can flip that switch at any moment. I think that is why I do ECT to give me a break from those relentless thoughts. Good luck to you!

I'm just if I say I'm at a 7 out of 10 how can I best describe that? To me saying 10 is saying I'm about to attempt here in just a minute while that's what a 9 means to others.

If I were doing this I would create the scale before picking a number. Pick the range sounds like a 0-10, then define some of the numbers. If I were doing it this is how I would define it: 0- no ideation, 1-2- (passive ideation)wishing to die but no plan or intent, 3-5-(active ideation) starting to plan minimal desire to act, 6-7-planning continues stronger desire to act,8-9 full plan close to full intent to act, 10- imminent intent to act on plan.

I have never seen a scale such as that among the many scales and quick evaluation techniques , but you brought up a very valid point , these scales don't compare apples to apples ,because ever patient is different in resources and resilience to things , and different places don't always use the same scale , I see my pain management doctor who uses a ten scale ,my PCP office uses a five scale of faces , doesn't make sense especially considering I don't know why my PCP even asks they don't treat pain ! , as a matter of fact my PCP recently changed and I found out the old one had never even noted in my records anything about all the other doctors I see , talk about not a team player, I see 13 other specialists and none of them are in my records.

Sounds like it may be time to drop your PCP. Sorry you see so many doctors.

I wish I could ,unfortunately there is a bit of discrimination going on , and I am getting both sides of the coin at the same time , even though I have insurance I have to go to a clinic for the homeless in order to get basic medical care in town for routine stuff, it makes me scratch my head that when I am sick ,I can never get care from my PCP ,when I show up at the E.D. they know something is really wrong , if it's by ambulance they freak out , when I walk in they know it's something simple like I can't get my doctor to refill my insulin, they ask during registration if your doctor knows your here , they don't ask me that because they know I'm there because of my doctor is useless ( Dr. Pepper works harder than mine).

I like the idea of the scale. I would say for me that the SI scale for me would be 0-1. That sounds very good, but I feel so down emotionally. I suppose it would go up tremendously if I was very sick and hopeless.

there are many suicide rating scales. any treatment provider (medical doctor, therapist, psychiatrist, nurse, er doctors) use it. it is just a few questions that are added in with the normal appointment to assess active suicide risk. here in NY its just a standard/ routine for treatment providers to ask these questions during yearly physicals or other routine appointments.
to get a copy for yourself to use on your own, anyone can contract their treatment providers. they will be able to supply you with a copy. here is what my own treatment providers use.... Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale Screening Tools / SAMHSA-HRSA please keep in mind that not all treatment providers and states in the USA use the same assessment tool. your own treatment providers will tell you which assessment tool is used in your own state and by your own treatment providers.... |
