I have depression and had this from the age of 18 years old, now I am 42 years old, but my depression has got worse over the last 6 months. I just cannot get on with my life I also have PTSD, and with having that comes the flashbacks and nightmares, which take me back to when I was Rape by my ex partner.
I also self-harm and think a lot about killing myself, my thoughts are bad.
I have very bad anxiety when I have to go out shopping thinking I will be rape again, I am afraid of men all the time.

Is their anybody out there that may have the same problems as me who I can talk to just to keep me grounded.

Thanks.

Hello maj: I'm not the person you're looking for here on PC. However I see this is your first post. So... welcome to PsychCentral! I hope you find the time you spend here to be of benefit.

I'm certain there will be members, here on PC, who will be able to relate to what you are experiencing. Sometimes it can take a while to become known. (Things can move pretty quickly around here.) But I do believe you will find the member, or members, you're looking for. In the meantime, here are links to some articles from PsychCentral's archives that may be of some interest:

I don't know, of course, if you're here simply seeking advice with regard to this particular concern or if you plan to hang in here with us. However, should you be planning to continue on (we hope you do)... may I suggest you introduce yourself over on PC's New Member Introductions forum? Here's a link:

There's a lot of support that can be available here on PC. The more you post, & reply to other members' posts, the more a part of the community you will become. Plus there are the chat rooms where you'll be able to interact with other PC members in real time (once your first 5 posts have been reviewed & approved.) So please keep posting!

Welcome to PC and to the Depression forum.

I hope you find the information and the support you may be seeking.
Please make yourself at home here.

I am very sorry for your depression, your fear and anxieties. Many of us struggle; I think you will find many have something in common with you.

I hope life gets easier for you.

Welcome to PC. I’m sorry about your struggle

I’ve been impacted by sexual violence too, and I’m struggling with being in any romantic relationship as I’m afraid of losing control like I did before. It’s really hard. When I go into a flashback, I tell myself that I am safe over and over again. It may seem dumb, but it does help. I can get scared of things easily too.

Are you currently seeing a therapist, psychologist, psychiatrist, or any type of mental health professional? Therapy can help deal with the flashbacks and nightmares of what happened. It’s also an option to try medications, but you don’t have to - you get that choice. I hope you find the support you’re looking for.
