As with anything or anybody...there are good and bad and shades in between . It's a shame the bad ones color the thinking of others.

I am not here to make enemies with anyone on the basis of my opinion, but we complain about doctors "not being good enough" when we should be asking ourselves "if I had been in their place, could I have done the job better?"

"They're after the money", sure, who isn't? Are you telling me a decent amount of policemen aren't after money in any given country? Are you telling me a decent amount of teachers aren't after money in any given country? Government officials? Newsreporters? Engineers? Chemists? Scientists? Actors? So why should doctors be exceptions and get all the hate when EVERYBODY is doing literally the exact same thing?

Here in the UK, they aren't so much after the money. They just lack a basic bedside manner.

If they can't force antidepressants on you or they don't work, same for CBT, then you are to blame for your ill health.

Our mental health services are vastly under funded.

I agree... we do not know enough about mental health. But I just wanted to point out (I know I am maddening a lot of people) we shouldn't call them names cause we aren't perfect either, nobody is completely honest.

Little turtle, when I told my pdoc that I feel too tired and low on energy for my age and wanted to be able to study again and be more energetic to be able to do housework, he wasn't encouraging. He kind of told me that I won't improve. Told me that if a cripple wants to run smoothly on a rough road, he/she won't be able to. So I should be happy with what I have got.

I was confused at first...was he mean or trying to be supportive? Then I thought is it correct to compare a person with low neurotransmitter levels to a physically handicapped person? Low neurotransmitter levels can be corrected to a large extent with meds and other methods like tms, etc as can be physical handicap to some extent with surgery. But then even if people are crippled but have adequate energy levels they can still read or do housework or even run on a rough road. But with low energy and motivation levels, it's impossible even for a non-handicapped person to run smoothly on a rough road. Moreover I don't have dementia, alzheimers or am not mentally retarded that I won't be able to go back to school again. I did complete my undergrads in psychology. I can't be that dumb. I feel that it's inadequacy and incompetence on his part when he gives up on me and believes that I won't improve. I myself still believe that I will improve but he doesn't.

i didn't react much but felt more depressed at his words.

My prev pdoc wanted to give me iv w/o even listening to my symptoms. I wasn't even much depressed or psychotic at all at that time. Later on I found out on the net that that injection is not approved any more for MI. So I left him and moved on to my current pdoc. At least he doesn't want to give me iv.

This is the condition of healthcare in India.

I am only talking about being a passenger too, as i can't drive because of a head injury. i was also in a few accidents that were horriffic. i HATE getting in a car too. I also have seizures too. they are under control for 8 years now. well i hope you feel better and can get well soon.

If I was a doctor, would I have a basic bedside manner? Yes.

I’m too OLD to be a doctor and some jerks would say I’m not smart enough.

I have personally experienced the harm that the lack of care and blaming attitude that some uk doctors do. It’s all the “patients fault” for being sick.

I don’t know why some have to insist on invalidating Our experience. It will not change the sad TRUTH

There are, however, some good doctors in Switzerland who actually listen.

IN THIS COUNTRY THEY DO NOT LISTEN.

Over here they don’t listen.. they don’t like it if we can’t tolerate the meds or change “significantly” after 6 sessions of CBT.

They don’t like it if we link our emotional pain to abuse... they twist our words and write down lies about us.

They would like us to say “I’ve been feeling a bit down doctor”

Then they could say “here’s something that will help”

“Come back in 3 months”

“Thank you doctor”

(If I could tolerate the meds I would take them)

I haven’t spent very much time reading there, what I have read has been interesting. Do you think they have any “answers”?

Btw I don’t think I’ve ever had a fasting blood glucose test. I think the doctors would like us (“the mentally ill” or whatever their label of selection is )to just die (I would like that too .. for me. )

Even when I was prescribed serokill I wasn’t given this test... and that doctor (who left and moved away) was one of the 2 doctors in the last (around) 30 years who had a kind manner ...

My prev pdoc didn't ask me to get my lithium blood levels tested when I was on lithium. I guess you need to check thyroid function as well.

fuzzy---at MAD IN AMERICA you will find people from the UK that have been
abused and traumatized ....they are very hurt and very angry...you will find true friends...I am there as littleturtle....I wish desiree would go there also...I think that site can be very helpful for anyone with a mental illness...that is why I am there...
I do not like what is going on in psychiatry...we are not being treated as human beings...we are just a number with a diagnosis and a drug..
