So i have had depression for 9 years now. I have episodes that lasts months even sometimes a year or more.I have been on every anti depressant i know of and the last two i lost weight because i couldn't eat. They also didn't work. Since this will obvioulsy not go away or better. I do not know what happy feels like. I just want to know if anyone here has had Electric shock treatment and if it was successful. It seems to be my last option but i don't want to do it lose alot of memory. i have read about it but i need to here from people who have had it done. thanks

Hi Star,

I could use some weight loss right about now. Do you mind sharing on which medications you lost weight? Have you tried Cymbalta? It is advertised on TV as when other medications haven't worked.

Usually doctors don't recommend ECT lightly. Since meds don't seem to be working that is logically the next choice.

I had ECT about 3 years ago. Considering the state of mind I was in at the time, it helped. There can be some memory loss. Also the results are not necessarily forever.

For me the worst part of the treatment was the IV. I hate needles. It only takes about 15-30 minutes for the entire procedure. Sometimes I had a headache afterwards.

Only you can make the decision whether ECT is right for you. However, if none of the med cocktails you have taken so far worked it might be a good option.

I lost weight on lexapro and the second time i was on wellbutrin xl. i only lost weight because i couldn't eat. I would try but could only eat a few bites of food everyday. Most people that can't eat end up holding onto weight or gaining. Not to many people lose weight while being on an anti depressant. yes i have tryed cymbalta. It was like a placebo. it didn't touch me. The best way to lose weight is to cut down what you eat, no eating before bed and exercise.
