I just handed in my notice at my job (UK).
I wasn't happy and it was going on for months. I couldn't bare with this and decided to draw the line without having found another job. I now instantly regret it and feel depressed on whether I will find another job soon. I was complaining for months at the job and wanted to do it, but now that I've actually done it, I am constantly thinking "what if I bared with this and didn't care too much". It didn't help that I was actually good at the job and my manager was also happy. It was just too much stress in the end. Luckily, I managed to save some money throughout to last me for the next 7 months in case I am in-between jobs. My dad (who lives abroad back home) felt really disappointed when I told him. He just told me that's my decision, but I could sense his disappointment with me. I felt even more depressed and now I am really down that I decided to do this. Do you think I will be able to find a new job soon? For the record, I quit the job after a year and a half in Finance and also have a UK degree as well (First Class). Thank you. |

Oh Yes, venom0706, you will find a new job. And your inner self knows this. You did the right thing, ducks pretty much lined up in a row, & you're FREE! Celebate your freedom from what wasn't right for you! I'm glad for you!

You worked hard for years so you could make this type of decision with your excellent qualifications. Be sure to analyze why the job was too stressful, and what type of job you need.

I'm not very familiar with how the job market works in the UK or how competitive jobs are in finance, but you said you did a good job and assuming you left on good terms and you're able to explain why you left (if asked), I don't see why you couldn't find another job. I just question what will happen if it's another job in the same field

I am in the UK. There is a huge demand for interim finance staff in the public sector. If you are inclined to work for yourself, set up a limited company and register with a handful of agencies. Day rates can be £500-2000. Contracts are 3-12 months. You can work for 6-9 months/ year and do your own thing for the rest. I know people who've been doing this for years. It's a good way to live.

You are going to be all set. Take advantage of this time off. Do something you have wanted to do. Travel. Write. Take cooking classes. Whatever. You may not get more like it for awhile.
