Thanks to whatever2013 for responding. I am deleting this because it's too difficult for me to deal with and I don't want to bother anyone else with my pain.

I hope all of you get the help and support you need.

@AgentQ9A:

Just chiming in to say that i get it. I also find life purposeless. I guess the truth is: there IS no point. I'll just keep stumbling along and one day i'll die. Incidentally, we have some stuff in common: i am also 55, my dad also died at 54, i also live in an apartment and i also live for my dog.

Thanks @whatever2013, I appreciate your input and response. I've been checking in on your posts because I'd noticed we were 55 around the same time. I hope you're well.

Thanks to everyone showing support. I'm in a very dark place at the moment and I am not seeing a way out. I'll leave it at that because I know each of you have your own battles. But thank you again for your support.

I asked my brother for a little help, which is a big deal for me as I hate asking others for help. I doubt he will, but stranger things have happened.

Edit: Brother's response is basically "maybe."

I hope your brother helps you. I feel the point of life is to create experiences. So I'm always striving for more. I figure out what I want to try and go for it. I'm very goal oriented.

Life does seem pointless now. I’m in my 60’s and am a physical and mental wreck. I can’t enjoy anything.
Have no zest for life. I know with the right circumstances it can get better. I just live for those moments in a day when
it feels like it’s good to be alive. But the moments are brief. How do I get out of this pit of despair ?

Hi @AgentQ9A
How are you doing today? Im so sorry youre having such a difficult time. I just wanted to send you some positive thoughts and hugs

And to say well done in reaching out for help, thats a huge accomplishment! You should be very proud, even if you dont get the help you need, you took a step to try and help yourself.

I hope things are getting better for you!

Thanks Pinny.

Things are really pretty bad, but I'm trying to not burden everyone with my life. I'm shrinking my life and world, so that when I'm gone it won't be a problem for people.

I'm dealing with troubling mental and physical issues, my dogs are both having troubles, my brother is backing off and I'm OK with that because I've been sh!tty for years and don't want him to feel burdened any further by me, and I had a chance to meet my friend and have been putting them off. I'm just trying to get through each day as best I can. I really think this time, I am done.

Thanks everyone, I do know you're hurting too and I hope you get support.

Dear AgentQ9A,

I hope you will reach out to a counselling hotline for support. There are very good people who want to help.

I know how hopeless things can feel at times. Some days are just harder than others. I sincerely hope you will have a meaningful talk with someone, soon.

Youre absolutely not a burden and youre not burdening us with anything.
Im so sorry youre feeling so bad, its awful, but it will pass. Youve got through this before, you can do this again.
Thats a great idea to call a helpline, or someone else in your life?
It sounds like you have a friend in your life who is reaching out to you, maybe you could reach back a little?
Just keep going, this will pass.

I know very well the emotions around what we're discussing. We can become mired, and unable to think rationally, rather quickly.

Sometimes it just helps to have a reminder that there are multiple, meaningful options for someone in this kind of distress.

I’m just gonna share what I did when I was at that point , ( and I’ve been there more than once ).
I started watching YouTube a lot and learned a great deal. I didn’t have the strength to read a whole
book so I watched videos on this very subject. I listened to what the great philosophers had to say about
this subject. and psychologists and just regular people. I immersed myself into the existential question
of “ Why “? It got me out of myself and “ into the moment” , ( which I believe is the secret to carrying on ).
There is such SO MUCH to learn. Hoping you pull through…..

Thanks again everyone. I do appreciate your input and there is some relief that others know how I feel. Still the feeling is persistent. I get a few moments to breathe and feel some relief and then it all hits me again. All I can do is appreciate the good moments and get through the bad. But getting through the bad is taking a lot more out of me than I seem to have lately. Living each day just to put one foot in front of the other is getting old.

I started eating a little better because I know some of my mental issues is related to how I treat myself. But now I feel deprived of the few things that I know make me feel better. Well, better for a few moments and then I feel terrible later. Now, other than some snuggles with my dogs, I don't have much that makes me smile or even just feel relief.

I'll give it one more day.

Thank you atreyuh………My depression Is also very heavy. Wish I could just lift it out of me and throw it in the garbage ! PM me anytime if you want to talk about your experiences. It’s hard when you just have no joy or happiness about life.
Does it mean anything to have lived at all ? Maybe I should go to the philosophy forum ! What I do is pick and choose. I take what I need and leave the rest.
But I digress , I guess. Good luck ateyuh. Sometimes I feel like that’s what it’s all about. CHANCE ……..
