i've been depressed for a while. I cry a lot and sometimes feel like hurting myself. I don't feel like going out anymore or even doing stuff i'm leaving for college in a few mths and i'm very scared but i know i need to leave. I need some advice, do any of you feel this way? Is this normal?

Hi EHkittys Are you seeing a therapist or on any medication for depression? Do your family and friends know you're depressed so you can get some support? Do let us know so we can help you better yeah? *hugs* |

Starting college is scary. Are you moving far away from your family, or not so much? I know school can stress me out, as does life sometimes... wanting to hurt yourself is normal sometimes too. Do you have a therapist or someone you can talk to about all of this? If you ever want to chat about anything, send me a PM okay?

Yep yep yep. I'd be surprised if most of us didn't feel this way. PLEASE try not to start SI-ing. Go for a walk instead, or listen to some good music. Crying is ok, it often helps to get the pain out, but hurting yourself is not the way to go.
Try reading the last few months of posts here. It'll take a while, but I guarantee you'll feel like you're in good company. Wishing you well, and *hug*

no i'm not seeing a therapist or taking medication, i think my mom might know because i yelled at her a couple of times when i was pretty upset that i'm thinking of suicide. I spoke to a therapist this week and she said that I need to get help but I don't know how to tell my mom that I need help. Yeah i'm moving far away from home its pretty scary because i don't know if i'll fit in and i hate going to new places. I listen to music sometimes,I think i need more than music or crying and i can't go for walks where i live. and i usually feel terrible after crying.

Maybe you can get your therapist to help you tell her? It's got to be easier than trying to do it by yourself... I know I put off telling my family I was depressed and on ADs for a few months afterwards because I just didn't want to deal with their reaction. They weren't ecstatically happy, but glad enough that I was helping myself. You'll never know until you try... I feel pretty horrible after I cry too, but sometimes it can help. Moving is scary... I only moved a short distance away from my family, and wound up being depressed for the first few months because I wasnt adjusting nicely. Learned a very important lesson though, when you move to a new place - do NOT isolate yourself, even if you feel like it. That will just wind up making you feel worse. Saw you in chat briefly, EHkittys. Glad you swung by. Don't feel bad if you don't want to say anything, many people just sit and watch. It can be very therapeutic. And chat is so immediate, so I'm glad you used that as a resource. Try it again, and if you feel like piping up, we're a great group of people.

I had a good day today, I have group therapy tomorrow, i've joined a group therapy thingy at my school until I start seeing a therapist I'm somewhat looking forward to it. |

i'm tired of people i hate that people always think that they can do anything to me and I won't get upset well I do get upset. Now i'm in a crapy mood after I woke up with good one I feel like punching the wall now, or doing something drastic. ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG.

i had the best day ever than i've ever had for a while, i actually hang out with my friend after school in a public environment. I actually feel good about myself. I also spoke to my brother today on im it was kinda weird at first but it was cool.
