My doctor says I need counsleing for my deppression and my friends and family say the same thing. But, I just don't understand why! Sometimes I just don't really understand why people say the things they do. Sometimes I feel like I'm just going to lose it! It's like theres no one there for me to talk to and I feel so alone. I need help quick! Help!

(((((((ejw))))))),

We are all here for you!!!

What is it that concerns you about seeing a therapist?

I see a therapist. It's wonderful to have someone to talk to about anything and everything: things that you can't even talk to your friends or family about. What you tell your therapist is TOTALLY confidential.

You know that sometimes when I'm not feeling depressed, I like to talk to my therapist just to learn more coping skills.

My therapist is someone that I can always talk to who understands and doesn't judge me.

I hope that this helps.

I don't know what I would do without my T - since I started therapy in Jan. I have learned so much about how to cope with everyday problems as well as with my emotions. My entire life has expanded in ways I never dreamed could happen. Seeing a therapist is not a sign of weakness but a sign of strength - that you have the courage to admit that you may need some assistance in some area of your life. Mine has done everything from advising me on shoes and clothes (LOL) to how to be present with my mother when she was dying and how to grieve when my mother died. He has helped me drive home from her death by calling me on the phone and "talking my home" safely. He is the only person I feel totally safe with - with whom I can share things that happened to me in my childhood that had been blocked from my memory for 50 years. Good Therapists are like our best friends magnified by 100 times! Yes, we pay them to be there for us - but not nearly enough for all they do for us. Mine spends more than an hour with me each week - listens to several calls a week (returning those I need returned), reads lengthy journal diaries I write each week and goes back over parts with me in my session, handles all my insurance matters including getting my insurance benefits extended - by the time all that is figued in he probably only earns about $10 an hour. But the important thing is - he knows WHO I am and how to deal with all those issues that have obstructed my life. He has made my life a fuller and more meaningful one. By all means - please listen to your friends' advice and go see one!

I remember this feeling very well! I also remember sitting in my Dr's office, crying, and him telling me that I needed counseling.
Counseling has changed my life in so many positive ways I can't begin to tell you. Without it I would not be alive right now. Counseling gives me somebody safe to talk to, and somebody to give the answers that I am looking for. He helps me cope with every day stuff, and also those crisis moments that we all love so much.
I know it is hard to take that first step, but it really does help.

Hang in there~

Since you are here, subconsiously I think you know you need help. Well, you are already headed in the right direction. You should definitely check with your MD to see if they will give you a referral, but if you decide to seek a Therapist on your own, you might want to check out "http://americantherapyassociation.org/" they offer free psychologist and counseling referals. You can also reach them at 1-800-234-2821. Good luck in your quest to healing.
