i couldn't handle college, so now i'm back home with my parents. they keep pressuring me with their expectations. my mom asks me how many credits i need to graduate still. and my dad keeps throwing job ideas my way. and when it comes to money, my mom's fav line is "you owe me kid"! wtf.....
i can barely keep myself going from day to day. i have times when i can't get myself to eat... the mind games are brutal! plus thoughts of suicide are always in my mind (like i'd be less of a burden if i was not here). so what should i do? if i show my parents the true downside of my depression, it will scare the hell out of them (it has everyone else). but they just don't seem to understand that this will take time and i just can't do what they are expecting of me. any one - help please?! |

I so understand the pressures you're speaking of and it bites at times. I'm sorry...
Please try to remember that many times another's reactions to us are based on their own internal stuff, and not always a direct reflection upon us, OK? They might be anxious for you to finish due to their own anxieties of never accomplishing what you are, knowing you're dealing with depression and desperate for this to be over for you, etc. Basically, their reactions to you are probably not reactions at all, but their own acting out of internal anxieties and fears. Maybe if it's viewed that way, it can help relieve some of the pressure? I sure hope so, hon, and wish you the best. KD __________________ |

Sorry if you already stated this some where, but are you seeing a T? I think this is a first step for your situation. The T can give you some advice as how to help/deal with your parents. Maybe even a family session will help.

How long have you been depressed?

I know how you feel. First, I think your parents are trying to help you a little bit, as strange as it sounds. It sounds like they don't want to see you just sitting around doing nothing, when you could be out working or doing something more productive. My parents are sort of the same way.
