You need to talk to you Doc about this. I work midnights, so I have to sit down with the docs every time they adjust my meds, and they have to give me a time plan that suits me. My 10am is everybody else's 10 pm, so it is tough.
good luck

Hubby takes Zoloft (causes insomnia) and Seroquel (causes extreme drowsiness), in him--others are different. Anyway, he takes both his pills at night. The Seroquel knocks him out and he sleeps like a log. He was supposed to take it in the AM, but that didn't work, so his docs let him switch.

welcome blah1. My MD has me take my meds at night... but you really need to discuss this with your md or at the least your pharmacist (they know more about meds than our MDs)

Talk to your doctor, but I think that it depends on the drugs and on the person. I used to take my Prozac at night, but I had to swtich to the morning because it was giving me terrible nightterrors. Plus I guess Prozac can make people jittery. I think it might depend on how the side effects make people feel.

I'm on Wellbutrin, Concerta and Depakote. Thankfully it's very obvious due to the side effects when I need to take these.

The Depakote wipes me out, as anticonvulsants are wont to do, and the other two give me a much needed kick in the butt.

I set two alarms for the morning, one 45 minutes before the other. The first one is for meds and drinking a ton of water, the second for actually getting up as my meds start making it easier to pry myself out from under the covers.

Also, your body has very complex chemical cascades that are based on your circadian rythyms. About a half hour before your body decides to get you up, your brain turns on a sequence that tells your stomach to get thinking about food, tells your eyes to come back into focus for the most part, your heart to speed up so norepinephrine(adrenalin) levels are raised, etc. Therefore the Paxil may knock you out - it never made me tired so much as it made me feel better, at least after the first week, so I took it in the AM - but you are probably recommended to take it in the AM due to these chemical reactions causing better absorption and metabolism of the drug. If you take it before bed, there's a likely chance it may not absorb as well as your body starts shutting down processes for the night. It's a matter of efficacy, more than anything.

I hope this helped! Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Anna

I take my meds at night due to the fact I can barely remember my name in the morning much less to take a pill so I take all my meds at night about an hour before I want to go to bed.

It depends on the meds, their side effects, and your physiology -- that is, how the side effects affect you.

For example, a lot of people say they feel energetic on Wellbutrin -- but it puts me to sleep. Even a small dose knocks me out cold.

Effexor gives me tremors. I have to take it in two doses twice a day. I have other meds that help me to get a good night's sleep.

I tried about 8 different antidepressants before finding one that worked, & a plan to take it that minimized side effect.
