I was wondering if its a bad idea to see a doctor if you think your suffering from depression issues because of a relationship. I dont even know where to begin or how to start.

you didin't state if you've had depressive episodes prior to the issues with your relationship. if it's situational depression you probably will get by without seeing a doctor. usually this type of depression will pass on it's own.
if you've had depression prior to this you may want to take that up with a doc.

I've always been pretty happy before i got intoa relationship. But i've been in it for 3 years...and its been going on for 3 years. We're not together now and its still going on. I'm starting to wonder if it will ever go away; That's why i didn't know if i need to seek help or not.

I don't think it's normal. I know a pretty wide group of people and i dont know anyone who handles things like i do.

i don't see how it could cause you harm to see a doctor and discuss your feelings vincent. he might be able to help you get over a rough time.
i am not saying that you are clinically depressed. i mean how the hell would i know that? nobody here would know that. but i can tell you this---not being willing to get off your *** and do something about your problems is a major indicator of depression. so give it a try.

Depression is depression no matter the source. It is important to seek help regardless of the reason and the earlier the better. You might want to request to see a therapist as there are usually underlying causes with relationship issues that shouldn't just be treated with medications which just treat the symptom. And, it could be that the therapist doesn't feel that therapy is needed, but check it out just to be sure, so that it doesn't become a bigger problem especially if you've had depression before. Good Luck!

it depends on what insurance you have. if you bring your insurance card to the doctor's office, the doctor's staff could phone the insurance company when they set up your appointment and see if they accept the insurance company's terms and what your co-pay might be. usually there is a deductible before payments kick in so i guess you'll be hitting up your parents for something but that's a helluva lot better than letting depression kill you kid.
if you just need a therapist, the doctor will tell you that and maybe give you a reference to a psychologist. generally a therapist can't write you an Rx if you need one so the psychiatrists work with psychologists.
also if you're scared to do it, at least talk to your family doctor and let him screen you for depression. he can call a shrink for you. the shrink is an expert though and your family doctor isn't. there are also free screening days at some hospitals in new york. if you live in manhattan call payne-whitney mental hospital and ask for general info.
good luck kiddo,
pi

Hi Vincent

If your question is that you are in a relationship and needs a Dr for an evaluation.

I don't see why you can't. Remember that if you are in a relation a visit to a Dr. may be the "key" to help you and you relation to both understand you condition

If tha't is not what you mean, let me know hon

Vincent,
Jmo, but talking it out with a professional isn't going to hurt but it can help you in many ways.
There may be other things going on in your life that are causing these feelings.
There's many variables in your life, but the telling point to me is if you are questioning it then you are depressed. Only a therapist/physician in real life can make the correct diagnosis.

You are of legal age and should be able to get a referral to a counselor through a community agency. Fees are on a sliding scale and are reasonable.
Your family physician would be a good place to start, Vincent.

Best wishes,
Cap

I agree with capp. I have found that the break up of my last relationship was just the breaking point of all the other bad stuff i have encountered thru out my life. I think it would be a good idea to seek help, maybe there is more to the way your feeling than just a broken relationship. I hope you feel better soon.
