This has been a burning question in my head for years and I have never yet run across anyone else who has this. But my T has said that I have a light sensitivity due to my trauma history. I was just wondering if anyone else is affected by trauma in this way. I've had my eyes looked at many of times and there is no physical reason for me to be sensitive to light like I am. Is my T just off his rocker with this one??? Or is it something that just occurs with some trauma surviors? I can't stand any bright lights and keep my home and office deem most of the time. It's to the point I can't stand to be outside even on a cloudy day with my sunglasses on. My T has said that many of my pieces can't stand to have lights on when they come out in T and T has to turn off as many lights he can so they can stand the pain of the lights. Guess I'm just wondering if anyone else has this happen as well? Thanks, Monty Light Sensitive due to Trauma ????
( Kind of feeling like a freak on this one)

I'm the opposite, I need bright lights. My husband always teases me I need the 'sun' on.
But I do relate to the eyes. I go in yearly for my eye doc & I'm tested, yet I still can't 'see' at times. My husband got mad at me just this weekend 'cos I need the monitor so stinkin' close. When I'm anxious is when I notice I have this vision problem.
A lot of people have a sensitivity to bright lights. But w/ trauma, this could be just one of your triggers. Some people can't stand a certain color, I can't stand stickers/ that sticky substance, this light thing is just one of your experiences you had. You may not remember what happened in a 'bright light' but your body/ mind does. I don't know why on earth I can't touch stickers. If I do, like for stamps, I have to wash immediately after w/ soap & water, but at least I've gotten that far!!
I hope this helps a little bit. Take care. & you are not a freak!!
Love,
RhysMadison

No Monty not freaky at all. I am not so sensitive to light but absolutley prefer the dark. There are times when I need to dim the lights as it can be uncomfortable. It comes and goes though.

Like RhysMadison my eyes go haywire at different times even though they are tested and fine. I think it is stress related or I always figured sleep depravation perhaps.

So don't feel like a freak. You are as normal as I am. LOL
I hope that is not too depressing. Light Sensitive due to Trauma ????

Take care of you.

OH my, if you want to see my freak out/ wig out quickly all you have to do is see me with something sticky on me. It's mad dash to the sink to wash as fast as I can. I know another really big trigger for me is the color green. I know the reason and the memory behind this trigger, but I have yet made it past triggering me. You are more then likely right about the light being a trigger. All I can think about is how it hurts my eyes and never really connected it to being a trigger. TY for your feedback. Light Sensitive due to Trauma ????((((Yo Monty!!))))))))))

You're not off your rocker!! Light Sensitive due to Trauma ???? There is an old textbook theory that states Light Sensitive due to Trauma ???? that in people who have been through PTSD (trauma state) and is exposed to bright light tends to "disorientate" (throw off) the person because the bright light is like a bright "hallucinative shot". Bright light inflicts surreal feelings that are actually like the anxious, uncomfortable, scary PTSD feelings.....they float on a parallel axis to each other. Light Sensitive due to Trauma ???? Light Sensitive due to Trauma ???? Get it? The brighter light subjects the person to being triggered easier because of the
surreal feelings that they eminate. I sit in the semi-dark; my husband is half-blind so it drives him crazy. We put in "dimmer switches" in place of the regular lightswitches every where in our apartment. When we go out to a bar or restaurant, I have to sit away from the brighter lighting. I have to wear sunglasses on cloudy days & the "Blu-Block" kind at night.
IE: If I'm on a city bus at night, they always have those bright lights on that blitz on/off all the time...if I don't have sunglasses on I feel like I'm on a subway in one of those horror movies because people's faces look surreal thus triggering an extremely ANXIOUS feeling(s) It's hard to explain..but it is documented Light Sensitive due to Trauma ???? Light Sensitive due to Trauma ???? Light Sensitive due to Trauma ????

Am I making any sense? Light Sensitive due to Trauma ???? O.k...I tried! But, you're definitely NOT off your rocker! Light Sensitive due to Trauma ????

Time for "Light's OUT! Light Sensitive due to Trauma ????

(((((((((((((((( Light Sensitive due to Trauma ????DAYZEE)))))))))))))))))))))))))

I am opposite. I have to have the lights on all the time. If I am sleeping and the light blows out, I wake up with a panic. The dark scares the heck out of me. I know my electric bill could be lower if I would turn off lights but I even keep my bedroom light on when I leave so that when I come home and walk in, it's on and I can see every nook and cranny. And heaven help me if there is a creaking sound and it is coming from a dark room.

Bright sunny days ...bother the heck out of me. Light Sensitive due to Trauma ????

Fleurescent just make me feel ill. I have to wear my "not so dark" sunglasses out even on cloudy days. I never was as bad as I've been over the past 10 - 15 years. I prefer cloudy or sun mostly behind the clouds all the time days. No rain and no snow tyvm days.

When I was married my ex and I used to argue because I needed at the very least the front levelors angled a certain way so that the reflection of the white houses wasn't glaring at me even.

*shrugs* I know what you mean..and it sux

((((Monty)))))
Ps..can i now have the brownie recipe?..lollll

(((((((((((((((((( Eva ))))))))))))))))) The recipe is yours. LOL
I have one side of my house that I keep the shades open on, so to get light in the house. But the other side is completely dark and I have thick covering over the windows so no light gets on at all. during the day I kind of stay in the middle of the house. I Love sunny days. They make me feel so much better. But I enjoy them from inside the house. Oh well. Monty

Hey ((((((((((((((((((( DayZee )))))))))))))))))))) Light Sensitive due to Trauma ???? Light Sensitive due to Trauma ???? Back at ya.
I have a weird way I see peoples faces as well. If it's just to bright I see there faces just washed out. Just like their faces are blank. Is really scarey. I can't look at a lot of ppl, cause I'm afraid they won't have a face.
My husband is blind in one eye and always has to have some kind of light on. Drives me crazy. Maybe my T is been reading that old textbook. He is an old school T. T still calls DID, MPD. Is more I wanted to say, but I can't get 2 thoughts together now. OK if it comes back to me I'll get back to this. Monty Light Sensitive due to Trauma ????
