Has anyone here ever had an alter who was planning on taking off.....you know just leaving...ok I will just say it..has anyone here ever had experience with "fugues?" leaving where you live and just going off somewhere else. I think I have an inner battle going on ..of course this would be diastrous for sure in my life. I just keep saying to myself "no" I am not sure if its alters or I am just frustrated with life.....even though some things are going alright.........sigh

Hey Chalkdust,
I'm no expert, but I don't think fugues are ever planned. Here is some info you may find helpful. Petunia Psychogenic Fugue is the assumption of a new identity and the inability to recall one's previous identity; it involves a complete switch in lifestyle, including home and/or work recall. This is usually caused by severe psychosocial stress, such as severe marital problems, being a part of military conflict, or being in some type of natural disaster. Psychogenic Amnesia is a sudden inability to recall important personal information, when not due to any organic cause. Like Psychogenic Fugue, this is usually caused by severe psychosocial stress Both psychogenic fugue and psychogenic amnesia are sudden , and they both are usually fairly short-lived, with a complete recovery made. They are most common during wartime or just after a natural disaster. |

Not familiar with the word fugue. Hate having to pick up slack for what others decide to do. Have many fights as to what we will and will not do. Leaving being one of them. Learning to live with those inside is like learning to live with others on the outside to me. I don't do well with either. You are deffinately not alone. Hope you keep posting.

Thank Petunia and Skylrk for your replys. I really think I am just having a hard day. When I read your post I remembered that fugues are sudden also...not planned! ha! I bet though many of us would plan one if we had the chance. I just need to make some decisions and stick with them I guess. Thanks again Petunia and Skylrk for your words ..sincerely.

My husband had/has a type of fugue states (or his pdoc and T think so). He never moved away or left his home, but he did assume new personalities and a new "life". I have to believe they were somewhat planned because his stories were very well concocted. So on some level, he was planning his fugues. If they were fugues.
![]() His whole situations confuses the heck out of me. I don't think this helped, but I thought I would respond since I am some familiar with fugue states.

Thank you also 1Dayatatime2 and Allison for responding. I was just about to get offline when I saw your replys.
1Dayatatime2 - I find your reply interesting. I also can tell from your words that it must be very difficult at times for you. I hope things are going better soon or at least today. So your husband assumed a new identity even though he was still at home? I want to thanks you for your interest and helping. Allison - You seem very nice and pleasant. Thank-you for your help also and your encouraging words. Chalkdust |

He was attending college at the time. When everything came undone, I found applications for apartments near the school. As well as other things.

i lost five months (for the most part) in which time i had an affair, divorced my husband, married another and got pregnant, quit my job of 2 1/2 years and had pushed all friends and family away. someone else lived my life and completely changed it. for a long time i had to live someone else's life until i could make it my own.
i only recently found out in therapy that this was to save my life and make my life safer so that i could stay in the world. DID is an amazing thing. in answer to your question, i did not plan on taking off (no one inside did that i know of). i think a fugue is very sudden in its description. to me, it sounds like a part of you wants change or to get the heck outta dodge. are you seeing a t so that the two of you can get to the bottom of this?
