I am new to this site but I have known about my DID for 2 years now. Well actually I think I have always known but I started treatment for it 2 years ago. I am still trying to accept it and get to know all the alters, I am up to 15 now.

How do you really get to know the alters??

Hello...... and Welcome.

I too had gotten up to about 15 alters when I started my treatment 11 years ago....... I am now down to just one main alter...... her and me - Carol & Carolyn.

I got to know my alters by listening to each one of them and by asking them to introduce themselves to me as they came out..... some times they told family members or my best friend their names - plus I am one of those DID people that are aware of what is going on 90% of the time..... I just cannot always stop them.

Hi & welcome from us too

we had over 20 alters when we began working this out

we have a co-conscious group now, of about seven alters, plus a couple we still have trouble communicating with & we sure as hell can't control what they do, lolol.

unlike Rhap, we were unaware of this for many many decades.
(well, perhaps we always knew, but we didn't understand what was happening, we were in denial)

there are many ways of getting to know the alters, but just the fact you know they exist is the most important thing

Welcome Michelle1Allisa,
For me, it was a hard diagnosis to accept and I spent a couple years trying to find any other reason for things. I journal a lot. I don't read my journal though because it freaks me out to see stuff sometimes, most especially if I have no memory of writing it, so I take my journal to T every week and she reads it and we go over it that way.

I am slowly learning who all is here through T. Sometimes people will tell me things but I am very wary about that because of trust issues. I have gotten so I trust my T more though and I do know she wouldn't lie or trick me.

Sometimes I wish I could get off this ride but I'm thankful I have T to help me through.

Best of luck to you as you work through things. We're glad to have you here. Hi, I'm new Hi, I'm new Hi, I'm new

Thak you guys. It's good to know we aren't alone. I still think sometimes that I am in denial. And some of the alters like to confuse me about who the core is. Most all of mine now communicate with me and each other, all but 3, they are new. But we keep working at it. Minute by Minute.
