I've heard it from two people now that I could have DID becuase I hear voices and they have taken control of my body sometimes it seems like I'm just an in habitant of my own body. Does this sound like DID? I have had MDD for 5 years, could it have just been dormant? And the voices also do some damage to my body and sometimes I know that it's going on but other times I don't know how it happened. Or has this been other peoples experence? I'm just trying to find others out there that can help me to deal with this. (not ment for diagnosis at all, but just knownledge.)

Hi puzzclar,
I have been diagnosed with DID, but I think it is difficult to say one way or the other. First let me say... please talk with your Therapist. Also, there is something called a DES test. If you plug that into google search you should find it and take it. It is a dissociative test. I do think that many of the things you are describing could fall into a DID diagnosis... but it could be something else entirely. Also, something to think about... where you abused as a child??? DID usually if not always comes from childhood abuse.

Also, I feel for you and what is happening to you. It sounds confusing and disorienting. Please take good care of yourself... be gentle and good to yourself. Listen to your heart and your head... what are you hearing...

I hope this was helpful??? If you have any questions just ask.

Lauralter

hearing voices and feeling like the voices are taking control of your body and the voices doing damage to you does not necessarily mean you have DID. if you do internet search on those symptoms you will see that it could be any number of mental, physical, psychic,or ghostly phenomenon.

we cant tell you here what your problems are because diagnosing each other goes against this websites rules. all we can do is share our own happenings with each other.

I have heard voices and have had the voices take control. for me it was called having DID.

A friend of mine heard voices and those voices seemed to take control For her it was called schizophrenia.

one of my co workers heard voices and they seemed to take control and she would have things happening to her body during times she was not aware. for her it turned out to be a brain tumor.

we all had the same symptoms but the resulting diagnosis was different and treatment was different in each case, mine was therapy, my friends was medication and the co worker the treatment was surgery.

again we cant tell you what your problem is or how to fix the problem. you will need to talk to your doctor, a psychiatrist and other mental and physical health people in your area. they are the ones that can accurately diagnose you based on how your symptoms are affecting you. and they can help you to understand why this is happening to you and help you to deal with it. all we can do here is share our own stories.
Thanks for this!

That really helped a lot hearing that it could be several things, and that's why I will be asking my T next week for what they think it could be or what type of things could be used for diagnosis. And that's why I was asking for people's experiences to see if mine fit, to hopefully find something that worked to label this. Thanks for the replys

Welcome to the DD forum. You are most welcome to ask questions and ask for opinions. There is nothing in the website rules here that state we can't diagnose. It would just be unwise to do so as we don't get the whole picture.
I'm sorry you have this going on, remember that full blown DID is rare while dissociation is not and there can be many reasons for this.

The helpful test posted above can give you a starting block on finding out what is going on and could be very good for you to share this and other symptoms with your T.

You are very welcome here, please let us know how you get on.

you are right there is nothing written in the guidelines policy for using this website about diagnosing each other

But

when ever this issue comes up on the boards moderators and administrators do post with in the community threads that diagnosing each other is not allowed here on psych central.

pming a moderator / administrator can get you more information about this rule.

I have been here a long time and I know what the rules are. The moderators and admin only step in regarding diagnosing if members start to make others feel uncomfortable about being in this forum. That it is to say if one member states that another member is not allowed in this forum because they do not have DID.

Our expertise is welcomed here, many people have questions that they want answered and it is our job to make sure everyone feels welcomed here.

Kind regards.

The DES quiz states at the beginning that it is a screening tool, not used for diagnosis. But rather an indicator of whether one needs to seek more experienced help & testing.

All people dissociate to an extent. Daydreaming, etc. But there are differing levels of dissociation, that only a qualified therapist/Pdoc can help you with.

I scored a 69 on the DES...I have complex DID, per my T. (Complex = details and issues, not disgnostic label).

GL, I hope you find a T to help you find the answers you seek.

Thanks nupoet, that was really helpful.

And again I was asking for experences to see if I could identify with others, i will be seeing a T on Thursday, and hopefully this myster will be uncovered, and then I can trully find social support her on PC. Since I'm never sure where to post things since my experneces are so complex.
