How can you tell the difference between the schizophrenic voices and the DID voices? How do I know which voice (DID or schizophrenia) is real and which is fake and where does this static come from?
Am I making sense anyways? I hear static without even realizing until it stops and is followed by a long ringing and it seems dead quiet in my head, unusually quiet. Does anyone have experience like this with the static? I've been learning to cope with the voices but the static is confusing. Does anyone else go through this? Anything at all would be highly appreciated!

![]() I'm sorry that you are experiencing this. ![]() I don't have any exact answers for you. In my experience, I do not have static, but I hear chatter sometimes when my alters get worked up....and sometimes before bed when I'm trying to fall asleep. What I have studied about and heard from T's is that, as far as voices go, often times the schizophrenic voices will be perceived as coming from outside ones head, as if being heard through the ears. I've even heard that it can sometimes be through one particular ear. The voices of the alters in DID are often perceived as being internal voices that are "inside" ones head and are not necessarily heard with the ears, but heard within the mind. I don't know if that helps or makes sense, but it's also different for everyone. If you are living with both schizophrenia and DID, I imagine it could be very confusing and un-nerving. I'm glad you asked. ![]()

example static symptom can many things such as but not limited to be - dehydration playing music, tv, mp3players too loud being exposed to loud noises hearing deficits medical problems relating to the ear. anemia medication reactions/dosage problems/self medicating with over the counter herbs, vitamins, medications that are reacting with your prescribed medications. voices, ringing sounds can also be part of the above list of causes and others too. my suggestion is contact your treatment providers. they can help you discover why you are having these symptoms. ![]() |

Hi PFM,
Our core hears 'white noise'. Whether its because she refuses to listen to what is being said, or because she hears more than what I do, I'm not sure, but she describes it to our T as 'white noise', like when a radio station or tv channel isn't tuned in. I guess it could be like your 'static'. I hear voices of the others and sounds of my thoughts inside my head. I also hear other things but it might be triggering so wont discuss. PM me if you wish. But one of our teens hears angels outside her head, nearly always in the right ear. I don't hear what they say, so again I have to wait till she tells T what is said. I have had MRI and ear drum and inner ear and canal checks (on our request as part of our DID denial), am not on any meds, and due to the constant goings on in our head we rarely have tv or radio on. There's enough noise going on already!! I don't have the answer for your schizophrenia/DID question, but thought I'd share so hopefully you wont feel so alone. ![]() kp

could be a form of tintus, or a problem in your ears, talk to your gp, get your ears checked to rule this out.

Thank you for all the replies. I may not have explained the noise too well though I'm afraid. It's not so much a "static" noise per se but as you said it's more of a "white noise" but I think the harder I listen to it, it seems like it's just chaos now. At first sound, when not paying attention to it, it sounds like a bunch of fuzz static and basically just loud in my head. After listening and thinking over it very carefully, it sounds like it could be coming from those in. I guess since those who aren't "those" (the schizo voices) are not the cause of the "static" and chaos but could be those within since the noise comes from inside?! This is just a guess, I'm sure a therapist would have better answers than that but someone who is too broke to afford medical I'll have to wait until I'm in the right place for that, thankfully the chaos is quiet enough so it does not effect me all the time, only when it's happening and I'm trying to think hard. I may be way off on this guess as well. My only guess is that it is my alters trying to break through or at least make contact since we are no where near co existence! Who knows though... Thanks again for all the wonderful replies, hopefully it's not anything too serious and physically wrong, I surely can't afford that!

PurpleFlyingMonkeys,
I am sorry that you are struggling right now. I am here and I am listening. I don't have schizophrenia so unfortunately I can't help with any advise. But I am sending positive thoughts and hugs your way. Cris from the hotel |

The noise went on again last night, like it usually does... Only difference is last night I was paying attention from the get go. My boyfriend and I are into the whole adrenaline thing to an extent. Only going into abandoned buildings and things like that... Looking for "ghosts" and what not. I live in a small town and it's pretty much all there is to do in our town.
Anyways so last night the bf and I were out looking for this light that is supposed to go down the road (no one knows what the light is) but it's in a really scary part of town since it's on the outskirts of town and in the most boondock middle of no where place at 1 am sitting in the car. Of course this gives me a scare, me being me, and almost instantly after turning the car off the noise began. I listened and it's just too hard to distinguish what it is. I'm not completely co conscious with my ddnos (did the pdocs say but I disagree and believe it may be something else) I don't know what happens during my blackouts or who I am or what I say or anything of that sort. As I sat there and tried to understand what I was hearing since clearly it was inside my head and I could hardly hear anything over this noise I've been hearing. Not the wind, not the cars, not the birds, the only thing I can hear is loud noises and even then it's muffled. I tried to talk to the noise, convince it to help me know what's in my head, I tried to force it, threaten it and even ended up staying even longer at the place I was afraid of just because "I'm not leaving until you tell me who you are" type thing. It didn't work of course. The noise seemed to get louder with some things I said and more quiet with others. Eventually I felt like I was losing myself, like I have felt many times, like I was fading into the back of my mind. By that point, not wanting to look like I lost it around my bf I gave in and told him I wanted to leave. Instantly the noise stopped and I haven't heard it since. (That was last night) I don't know what it is, I don't know if it's from the ddnos/did or if it's just something crazy going on in my head, either way it's aggravating as heck not being able to hear but it somehow makes me a bit relieved to know it's more likely a dd problem than a schizophrenia problem. I can't handle hearing voices that aren't real. Even if they are only real to me they still have some weight behind them being dd, at least to me they do. Thank you again for all of your replies... I still haven't figured out exactly what this noise is all about but I feel hopeful in having answers in the future if I can just continue training my mind to ground when I am in high emotional states.

I would like to know how you are doing? I was diagnosed with something awhile ago
and its coming to light that some Psychologists like to give tablets instead of solving the roots of the causes. I have studied brain waves, energy as in thoughts changed my attitude towards things and got rid of things that do not make me anymore etc also studied nutrition as in altering my diet and it has greatly helped. As for the static i have it, the universe is made up of frequencies and waves changing your vibes may have an effect, also be mindful of what you tune into and your the only one to let things effect you. If you question i would advise studying up on some of the things mentioned there are also frequencies which heal. Bless |

the voices I heard were contributed to many different things depending upon other accompanying symptoms..psychosis, hallucinations delusions, dissociative disorders, colds flu medication problems, sleep deprivation... and many more.. how can you tell the difference... only your treatment providers can tell you what the static and voices is in you, why and how to tell it a part from DID, schizophrenia and any other medical and mental health issue that shares the same symptoms as hearing static and hearing voices. my suggestion contact your treatment providers they can help you figure out whats what with your hearing static and voices. |
