Had a response to my email complaining about the lack of treatment I received at the hospital. I need to phone the person to discuss what I want to happen. I'm scared.

Caroline, It is scary but heres something you could try.

Write down what it was about the hospital appointment that was upsetting and practice saying it. Say it out loud until you get comfortable with what and how you want to say it.

Then make the call

I have just spoken to the complaints manager.

Hospital

She was nice and said she understood my frustration. She is going to make some more enquiries and get back to me.

well done caroline. I know it was hard but it sounds like the lady was OK in that you felt she was nice. Will you let us know what happens?

Thank you, Gem.

it was very very scary and I did get upset on the phone. She said she was sorry I had such an upsetting experience though. She is going to get in touch with the dr and the CPN and get back to me. She also said that I should have had a copy of the CPN's letter.

Thank you Petunia - I hadn't thought of it like that. I only did it because my pastor's wife said I should let them know how bad it felt. So I did it and didn't think through the implications. The complaints manager I spoke to asked if I wanted to make it a formal complaint and I said I didn't know, but I am OK with the fact that she is going to investigate for me.
Thank you so much for the encouragement and for pointing out what I have done. I will put it in my successes for my T.

I got another email today from the person I spoke to about my complaint.
She said she had passed it on to another member of the team to make enquiries and he will be phoning me tomorrow with the results of his enquiries. If I am not happy I can make a formal complaint. Not sure if I want to go down that route or if there is even any value in doing so.

I emailed my counsellor and told her I had made the complaint. When I went to see my GP today I saw her on the way in and she said she was really proud of me for doing it. I also told my GP today, though I was a bit worried about doing so. I shouldn't have been - he too thought it was the right thing to do and was very supportive. I still feel equivocal about it but I think it is important for me that I have done it.

thank you atg.

I had a really good session with my GP today and he had some great suggestions for me. He knows last week was really hard and we talked about why. He has given me a really precise perspective - he wants me to try to look at myself in a very different way, to totally reframe hy opinion of myself. It was such a good thing for him to say. I am SO lucky with my GP - he doesn't just treat me with meds but he looks at the whole person, and he always gives me the time I need, not the time the appoitnments system says I should need. Course, that means his appointments always run late, but it is worth it.

Thank you for the encouragement. I really appreciate it and it does make a huge difference.

What a great GP you have!

((((((((((Caroline))))))))))

I love the idea of reframing our opinions of ourselves, something for me to think on also.

Hi Sarah

Oh, I am so so lucky with my GP. He really treats me as a whole person - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual (he is a Christian). I was so impressed that he didn't just ask how I was - he also asked what I have been discussing with my counsellor and tried to tie in his advice with that. I am so thankful to have him for my GP.
