Because my mom has been diagnosed schizophrenic , my student T thinks i need to be put on an antipsychotic. But i think the voices are more ego states or something. They all come from INSIDE my head not outside. There are the children and adolescents and a real mean one and a bossy one. I'll go to the pdoc , but my T is a student and my other T never thought this. I'm going to have
records sent from both Ts to pdoc. I've always felt she just doesnt "get it" but she is done in May and then i'll get a new T. |

Although family history can be relevant, I find it ludicrous that she is basing her medication recomendation upon what disease your mother had. I'm glad you're having your previous records sent, and will be seeing someone new. Schizoprenia and dissociative disorders do have overlapping symptoms, and can be difficult to diagnose. I hope your next provider really really listens to you, and will be able to understand you, and therefore help you more effectively.

If possible have one of your t's evaluate you through testing to determine if you have did. Gr3tta is right, they can't just diagnose and prescribe medication based on your mothers diagnosis. I hope every thing works out for you.

Even with schizophrenia the voices do hear in your head. I actually hear voices outside and inside my head. I guess it's a matter of what medication works. She's probably thinking if a certain medication worked on your mother than possibly it can work for you... or maybe these voices will die down with anti-psychotics because some may be caused by psychosis. I'm not familiar with how they treat DD and I'm not a professional. It's possible to have both.

both dissociative disorders and schizophrenia can have an hereditary factor. Which is why most treatment providers do a family history when they find out their clients are hearing voices. Both dissociative Identity Disorder and schizophrenia share the symptom of having what the person perceives as beings similar to alternate personalities, alter egos, precursory alters... Im glad you will be seeing your psychiatrist (PDoc) they can help you to get diagnostic evaluation done so that you will know once and for all what these beings inside you are and whats the best treatment for you all. the student teacher.. well not much you can do about her.. you have two options continue with her and then when she's gone get another therapist or tell her you dont think shes the right fit for you and be assigned to another therapist. hopefully your next therapist will be a better fit for you. |

Than it may be time to switch. One needs a good therapist they can trust in order for counseling to work. Thus why stuff like this is always so tricky.

**** warning might trigger****I think im just going through a bad patch and i really miss my T i cant afford who "got" me. I just want to sit down and cry bit dont have the time. I'll make an appt with a pdoc see if i can get some clarity. Thanks for all the input. I'm afraid of schizophrenia dx
because my mom has it and she tried to kill me my brother sister our dads , her new husband . She is really mean and evil because of her illness. I dont want to be like that. But some of her violence i think happened after an open head injury too. Think it may have damaged part of her brain, and of course she was also abused. In fact, her abuser, her dad, gave her injury when he threw her off cliff. |

I wouldn't let the schizophrenia dx scare you. The earlier they find out the easier it is to treat. For the most part schizophrenics aren't normally violent towards others. Psychosis typically makes someone more likely to withdraw from everyone else and hurt themselves than other people. Remember the diagnosis is only a label to help the doctors treat you. It doesn't defined you. You are also not your mother. You are your own person. Only reason docs like to go on family history is because mental illness likes to run in the family and it's more likely what worked for a parent/sibling might work for you.

Oh. Thank you. :-) i dont know if medicine ever worked. My mother makes no sense and father died young. My sister' s dad told me she
Was dxd schizophrenic and makes sense because my brother tells me she says God is telling her to kill people.i guess a label is just a label. And until i see pdoc,or see what medicine works, i really dont know. |
