Does anyone here suffer from dissociative amnesia regarding parts of childhood? Were you ever able to recover those memories?

Yes, I do. Some memories are recovered in therapy, as my T talks to all the inside kids who remember a lot of things quite clearly that I didn't. Then again, I was not "born" until the body was in 1st grade, so I wasn't even around for some things in the 1st place, so they are not mine to remember. But yes, I have no memory of lots of things, all the way to being a teenager.

I suffer blackouts which come and go from childhood. The flashbacks from memories when they hit are scary and confusing.
I don't know what they are or what the "clinical" term is but I don't care much for them. Until what I can only refer to as "my demise" I never had them. Perhaphs the breaking point opened something within me that broke down the "protective" walls I built which allowed them to come through. I dont know... I have no answers... I hope someone has them and can add some insight. Wishing you well Cotton |

I also have dissociative amnesia. I have very very few memories of my childhood, even my teen years are a bit scattered. Unfortunately what I have recovered was just because something was happening that triggered a memory. I work hard at trying to remember because I feel like I need to but it hasn't gotten me anywhere so far :/

yes I had dissociative amnesia and still do to an extent..I have gained back some of the memories and I havent gained back some memories. Some through integration of my alters and some through normal activities that jogged my memory, some from working with my treatment providers on trauma and other things.

I have found that during my healing of MPD/DID I found that if you try to
Push hard and find these memories then I often found myself going backwards. I do believe if you work with a T and a journal your mind will slowly release those memories and having made this journey I do feel you find the memories that creates your puzzle from pieces of memories you get during your time in healing. Does this make sense? OH and PTSD is within the Dissociative Spectrum, for those that care to know. Peace, Crew

I don't remember much of anything from before, like, age 12 maybe? And even up until 18 is mucky. I don't think I get to be me much because the alters always come out to do what needs done that I can't do.

My parts journal and draw. Sometimes, I find the journal and read of events that I didn't know happened. If you have not been told to journal - it is a good way for parts to talk without talking to people. Normally, my journals are filled with about 7 or more handwritings. It does releave some of the voices and pressures - if I let them write it down or draw. I hope this helps |
