I now have a way to sleep without waking up from bad dreams! Sleeping without dreams

For about a month, I have been avoiding going to sleep at night so that I would be too tired to wake up from the dreams I'd been having. It seemed to work best if I only got 4 to 5 hours of sleep. But I stayed pretty tired during the day and didn't function very well overall. So, my T suggested that I ask my alters if someone else could handle the dreaming for a while so that the body could get enough rest. I did just that and, lo and behold, for the past 3 nights in a row I've gone to bed and gotten 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep (well, except that I have a 2 yr old dd who has PTSD who wakes up too).

It seems that by simply asking my system if there is an alter who can take over having the dreams at night so that we can all get enough rest, I no longer have to wake up in a complete panic or drenched in sweat. It seems too easy! I guess for me, the simplest solution is the best.

Just wanted to put this out there in case it can help someone else.

Elizabeth

Its good to hear that you have someone in your system that can give you a break from the nightmares. I have been told by DID therapists that communication to ones system of alters is one of the most important aspects of Therapy, and sometimes just throwing a question out to whoever is in there listening..can resolve some somatic complaints or in this case horrid nightmares..thanx for sharing Elizabeth..

There are many ways to try and communicate with your others. If you can be alone, speaking out loud might be the easiest... talk like you would if "just wishing" out loud ... journaling your request and asking for why there might be a problem with what you want... or even IF there is another who can do this for you... one way to tell your brain what you wish is to make it the last thing you think about before falling asleep... saying I want to... Hope you find something that works for you!
