I thought this looked familiar so I scrolled to the bottom of the page to find out the publishing information and was pleasently surprised to find the information that this test isnt meant for diagnostics and other information..including where I had seen this test recently...in a book called Stranger in the Mirror ...that a co worker is reading.. published in 2001. great book and cool test even though its not complete and not for diagnostics, thanks for posting it.

Depersonalization is not the same as DID.

No, its not. But for some reason, it is classified in the dissociative disorder section. Maybe because they dont know where to place it ?
From what Ive read, many things can trigger depersonalization/ but I am not an expert on the topic and only a professional can answer these questions accurately.
I scored a 38, and have not been diagnosed with a dissociative disorder - I keep getting told I have depression. But then again, not many doctors are knowledgeable about the disorder.
You can go on YouTube, and type in "depersonalization" and a ton of videos will pop up.

maybe I can help clear up why depersonalization is classed with the dissociative disorders....it is because the symptoms that make up this disorder are dissociative symptoms...shutting down, numbing, feeling spacey, feeling detached from self, detached from surroundings, distorted sense of time, ...

I scored a 41. I am confused because there are such markedly different parts of me, and I can feel two of them at once, I was starting to wonder if I have alters. I'm okay if I don't, I just need to know. This is all just so confusing to me, and I usually love reading psychology. I have no clue about this one and feel quite helpless. I see my T tomorrow.

I scored in the 60's. I'm not sure how accurate the quiz is. I tend not to give them much thought. I take them out of curiosity, mostly. Though, the 60's seems a bit high looking at these scores here.

I answered accurately. Too often I look in the mirror and feel like I'm staring at a different person. Too often I feel as though someone else is living my life. It's like... splitting from myself. I'm still conscious. Kind of. I can see. Sometimes I can hear (though sometimes, my hearing does go out for a while). And I know I'm alive. But it feels like someone else is controlling what I say. What I do. How I react. I have had periods where I blacked out completely. They're rarer, though and have only happened twice that I can recall. I've always assumed it was linked to my depression. But I admit to having not seen a psychologist in many, many years. So, I don't like to claim it's anything.

I scored 23. It did not surprise me since I have been through 2 psychoses.

Sometimes, I get depersonalization. One time the lower half of my body felt like it belonged to another person.

Can one get depersonalization without a trauma history?

I would not use this quiz to self diagnose. Why? Some of the questions can have multiple causes, such as spacey feelings. They can be caused by things like low blood sugar, medication and sleep deprivation.

I took the test many times and each time it told me I tested in the severely mental disorder range. except for one time...

if this had been an actual test it would not have spit out the same response.for this test there is only 3 responses it gives for scoring...severely depersonalized (24-75). unless you go through and click never for every question. normal range and mild which is 15-24 . and each time it said to consult a treatment provider.

I found the ranges interesting on this test...only 1 score will give a with in normal range (score of 14) only 9 scores will place a person in the mild range (15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22,23,) and 51 scores will place a person in the severe range (24 through 75 and 75 is the highest the test will go.

actual depersonalization testing with a psychiatrist its the opposite the normal range would be the largest scoring bracket and the smallest scoring bracket is the severely depersonalized range because the higher the dissociation the more likely its going to cross over into a different dissociative disorder.

i enjoyed trying the test and all but its not a true/accurate testing for depersonalization ...one because some key questions have been removed from this test and two because its rigged so that a majority of people end up getting a severely depersonalized scoring, and not a fair test because only someone who basically lies on the test by selecting never every time will get a normal range scoring.

I scored a 44...I've recently told my t about some of my experiences (feeling like I'm not alive, feeling like nothing is real or I'm not real, etc.) and she labeled it "depersonalization". I've never experienced any sort of trauma, so I think it might come from my mood episodes. My t told me that if I can feel more connected to other people, I'll feel more connected to myself and the world, and the depersonalization/derealization will subside.

I went through a trauma 8 years ago & the depersonalization was much worse the years closest to the trauma & have been diminishing every year since....but it still hits at times...when it's the most inconvenient in my life.....when I'm trying to do something that's a little bit stressful to me or when I'm around large groups of people......something I always had problems with but not seriously until I went through the trauma.

The score was probably a little higher than it really should have been not always able to distinguish how often it's hit me.

The first time I experienced depersonalization was when I was feeding the horses at the ranch where I have my horses boarded.....I was grabing hay from the feed pile & people were talking around me & at me & for some reason, I answered but had no idea where the answer came from....& it was like I was watching myself continue to feed the horses & completely disappeared from talking to anyone for fear I wouldn't be able to answer because I just wasn't putting together the reality around me. It continued while my H stopped at the grocery store & I went in following him around the store fearing to stay alone in the car but also not wanting to talk to anyone either. Scared me so bad....asked my pdoc what was going on & that was when he explained that I was experiencing depresonalization....it's hit me several times after that after I left my H 6 years ago & moves 2100 miles away to where I didn't know anyone....it's been scary when it happens & I"m alone...but glad to say that the experiences have been lessening & it helped once I learned what was happening to me.....current psychologist & DBT group leader have been good at working with it also which is probably why it's lessening rather than getting worse.

I got a 51. A lot of the time I am living a dream. The colors have changed, actually right now I feel that I am in a dream. But I think that is time related. Its 410 AM right now. Right now I'm struggling to type. Normally I can type just fine. All my docs say I have a dissociative disorder on top of my schizoaffective and autism.

I got a 28. Not because of depersonalization but i think because of the spacing out due to ADHD.
