A couple weeks ago I was driving and I started feeling this floating feeling. . .almost a euphoric feeling. I was really getting into some music I was listening to. I am Christian and I thought I sensed that maybe it was God letting me know that He was with me. I hope it's OK to mention spiritual stuff here.
I've had this happen a few times actually, and again today while driving. And at the time I didn't want it to stop I wanted to stay in that feeling so I pulled over and listened to music for awhile before going home. I really question that feeling. . .I'm not sure what to make of it. And I had it to some extent today driving but sort of forced myself out of it because afterwards I always question if it was my imagination or what it is. I'm not taking any medication or anything but it feels similar to a feeling I had once years ago when I did cocaine and I was driving in the rain and things looked all strange. So the question is, is it possible this is just a dissociation issue? Thanks for your help. ![]() |

It happens to me, it sounds like depersonalization. But again, I am not a professional.
There are also secondary characteristics of depersonalization, which may include: feelings of dizziness, floating, or giddinesss You can find more about it here. Depersonalization |

Sometimes I'll see a dot on the wall and imagine I can shrink down and go into the dot and disappear. I don't have anything where I see my body changing shape but I do see my surroundings change sometimes. When I was trying not to zone out before my counselor came in the other day I was pushing really hard on my eyes trying to get that floating feeling to go away. I was at the time looking at the fabric on the sofa and it's like my vision zones in on one little thing and I was seeing it closer and closer until I was comparing the threads on the fabric. So Depersonalization huh? Another thing for me to look up. Thanks |

I asked my counselor about visiting message boards because I tend to keep thinking I have one problem after another (OCD, PTSD, DDNOS, you name it) and it's like I have elements of a few things, but I'm not really sure what it all boils down to. He gets worried about me getting information overload and scaring myself. I've been doing that the last two days and now, ironically, he's going on vacation for a week and my husband is going away for two nights at the same time. I haven't been apart from him for almost 4 years. It is sort of scary because I want to keep searching and learning but there's also this part of me that wishes I could put a lid on all these questions for two weeks until I can get with my T to talk about them. But once I start the questions going in my mind I just can't seem to stop and then it's like I get caught up in my own thoughts. I need to snap out of it and just get to what's around me and I feel better. But then I think. . . am I just dissociating from it again? LOL it's pretty funny when I think about it. Darned if I do and darned if I don't. |

WARNING -
POST CONTAINS - MY - EXPERIECES WITH MY TUNNEL AREA AND ACHIEVING CO CONSCIOUSNESS. This floaty feeling is what - I - have been told by many professionals in the field of DID is the beginning of dissociating. Its what - I - call - MY - tunnel area and - MY - area of co consciousness (when memories are replaying in - MY - head and - I - am aware of both the floaty feeling/memories and of what is going on physically around me) MY present therapist LL and - I - use relaxation visualizations other wise known as hypnotic techniques) as a part of MY therapy program by doing them during therapy sessions and recording them and - I - practice at home by using the recordings at night we also use relaxation visualizations of bringing - ME - into - MY - tunnel - co consciousness area of floaty feelings for - MY - memory recall work for example when we worked with the sand tray - WARNING - LINK MAY CONTAIN TRIGGERS SINCE I CANNOT POSSIBLY KNOW EACH PERSONS TRIGGERS BY CLICKING ON THE BLOG LINK READERS ARE TAKING RESPONSIBILY FOR THEIR OWN WELLBEING AND TRIGGERS. http://myself.psychcentral.net/2006/05/28/sand-trays/ - I - have also taken anger management classes, parenting classes and depression anxiety management classes where the therapists taught those in the class how to achieve this floaty relaxed hypnotic feeling. - I - think its cool that you can pull yourself out of that floaty tunnel. - I - had to work with - MY - past therapist SKR for close to a year and practice doing it at home too in order to be able to do that. Now - I - can do that some of the time. When - I - am with LL she has asked - ME - not to pull myself out of that floaty relaxed area when we are doing relaxation visualizations together and to just "follow" because she wants - ME - to have the full benefit of achieving that relaxed state of mind while at the same time remaining aware of her voice (co conscious). When - I - am with LL and we are just talking sometimes - I - pull myself out of the tunnel and sometimes - I - don't try for example yesterday - I - had a rough morning getting to her office on only 4 hours of sleep and then - MY - bike broke along the way (gear shifter and chain ) so by the time - I - got to her office - I - was tired. - I - let her know what happened then opened - MY - soda and told LL how - I - was doing physically and depression wise and then sat back and relaxed into - MY - tunnel and la la land for a little rest. When - I - came back to awareness LL let - ME - know "who" she had been talking to and showed - ME - a picture - I - had drawn while - I - was off resting. - I - was just too tired yesterday to even try pulling out of - MY - tunnel. Other times with LL when just talking - I - do start slipping into - MY - tunnel and pull myself right back out. When - I - am with my friends and out in public -I - continue to use my grounding techniques so that - I - don't dissociate away from my problems and - MY - friends. at home - I - am training myself to use my floaty tunnel for relaxation needs not for running away from - MY - problems and triggers. |

Hi faith_tx,
I get the floaty feeling a lot as well. Sometimes I feel it and then the next thing I know, I am somewhere else. Other times I am able to come back to the present without ending up in another time zone. I actually don't mind so much sometimes when I am sitting in the back watching and not having to participate. It's a safe feeling for me. Petunia has some good information. I tend to stay away from much researching for my own reasons but I can understand why your T is concerned about information overload. Just take it slow and be as open as you can with T. We're glad you are here. Thank you for sharing with us.
